Blocking punches with your gloves is NOT the answer against The Hawk. I think Wink would be controlling the action, then get caught and put away.
Jackson. Winky wasn’t as sturdy at 154 as he was at 160. Jackson had that kind of power that could turn solid chins into dust.
1. Trinidad was past his prime, and had clearly lost the velocity on his power shots that he once had. 2. Jackson had different type of power than Tito.
Not that they're the same style of fighter but if Julio Cesar Vasquez can drop Wright 5 times i can't help but think Jackson could floor him as well. The difference would be Winky wouldn't be bouncing up and recovering as quickly.
Trinidad was pushing his punches out in the Wright fight, which is the number one sign of a shot fighter. He was forcing them, whereas in his prime they just flowed. I'm confident that Wright vs Trinidad is a completely different fight circa 99-00.
Agree. By that point, it seemed like Trinidad's punch had lost its sting. He'd gone from absolutely shocking his opponents with his power all the way up to and including the Joppy fight, to showing fairly average power that didn't seem to really inhibit his opponents. Funny how that happened so suddenly.
Please... stop. It's old and tired. You're the only guy in the world who still believes that ridiculous theory. Extra gauze CANNOT create all time great power. It just can't. If it could, trainers would have BEEN known that secret, and every Joe Shmuck would be a devastating knockout artist. Manny Steward (who had zero reason to lie on behalf of Trinidad) said flat out that a bit of extra gauze would have ZERO bearing on a fighter's power. Unless you wanna tell us that you know more about handwraping than Steward. Trinidad had natural power. End of story.
He hit Mayorga 10,000 clean times, OF COURSE he was gonna stop him. I maintain though, that post-Hopkins, post-two year layoff Trinidad clearly didn't have the same velocity and snap on his power shots that he had versus Vargas, Reid, ect..
Yeah and mayorga, who had a great chin, was pretty much hurt everytime tito landed something. His power looked no worse than it did against thiam. This is ridiculous revisionism, and nobody was saying it before the Wright fight
I think Trinidad’s power was still there, but he definitely lost the offensive reflexes and timing he used to have before the the 2 year lay off. I think a prime Trinidad doesn’t need 8 rounds to get rid of Mayorga.
