Wonder Woman easily topped the box office with a smashing $100.5 million which is the first time a female director accomplishes such feat. The highest grossing number record for a female director was $85 million for director Sam Taylor-Johnson for "Fifty Shades of Gray'. That film went on to gross a smashing $571 million worldwide regardless of its bad reviews. The Patty Jenkins DC film is expected to do much better than that one due to the fact that it is not an R-rated film and unlike 'Shades" it has been widely received with glowing reviews from both critics and fans. Audience members were split practically evenly between both male & female genders with a small edge toward females at 52% marking it the first time a superhero comicbook adaptation appealed to more females in a predominantly male-oriented market. Wonder Woman also opened in 55 international markets to the tune of $122.5 million which currently puts it at $223 million in just 3 days. The biggest opening was in China with $38 million besting the debuts there of Man of Steel, Thor, The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Debuting in a distant second place the well reviewed Captain Underpants grossed a disappointing $23.5 million. Definitely the Wonder Woman juggernaut affected this film's chances among families. While the number was not great for the Dreamworks Animation film, it just cost much less than say 'Rise of The Guardians' which opened to similar numbers and finished its run with a little over $100 million. If 'Captain Underpants' can hold well for the next few weeks and reaches at least $100 million, it will not be considered a flop. Time will tell.

But the real bad news is for Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales as its ship seems to be sinking faster than the Titanic. It took a 67% drop from last week and came in third place with $21.6 million. Its domestic cume is now $114 million after two weeks, which is a pathetic number since previous sequels made more than that on their debuts alone! However the film is doing fine internationally and has reached the $500 million worldwide.

In the fourth spot Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2 added $9.7 million to its coffer upping its domestic numbers to $355 million. Worldwide it stands at $815 million.

And finally in the fifth spot is Baywatch which took a 54% drop this weekend with $8.5 million. Its current domestic total stands at $41 million.

*ALIEN: COVENANT took $4 million in the sixth spot for a domestic total of $67 million.
*BEAUTY & THE BEAST surpassed the $500 million mark domestically and will push down 'The Dark Knight' from its current All Time spot sometime this week.

I'm happy it did better than expected. They are lucky the movie was getting good reviews. That being said. We will see if it stands the test of time. Let's see how it does next week vs. The Mummy & It Comes At Night releases. Then of course you have Cars 3 coming out the week after that. It's going to be tough for wonder woman to maintain a top position. I also think word of mouth might now be as strong as they want. Many people are coming out of there with lower ratings of the movie than the critics gave it. So we shall see. All and all, this is good for comic book movies all around.

My daughters, whom my wife forced them to come with us to watch it instead of 'Captain Underpants', gave it a polite 'It was okay'. My wife did not even mentioned the film after leaving the theater just 'Are you hungry? where you want to eat?' Me on the other hand thought it was very good.

It was an okay movie. 7/10 tops. Better than Suicide Squad but far short of Logan or Guardians 2.

See, Sly & Joe King are rating this movie exactly how I thought it would be.

I fucking knew it was suspicious when Critics are going bananas over it with ridiculous '95%' ratings...

Sly already explained to you how the RT system works: the higher the score means that more critics gave it good reviews than negative ones. Heck, there is currently one animated movie that has a 100% certified fresh. That doesn't mean is one the best movies ever made, just that ALL the critics gave it good reviews. That's all.

Wonder Woman has finally surpassed the final numbers of 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' of $330 million. It now stands as DCEU most successful domestic release. Can it also beat that film's total global box office numbers? BvS:DoJ made $847 million in 14 weeks, half of that amount was made on its first week. 'WW' had a smaller opening, but in just four weeks has made $666.7 million. While it is a long shot, it is not impossible.

Watched this on a stream. Couldnt hold my interest. It was basically the first Captain America mixed with the first Thor. I can see why it has high approval ratings. It seems well put together, but it's kind of meh. I'd say it's as good as Captain America but not as good as Thor.

It was better than Both. First Captain America was not that good. It was better than critics gave it credit for, but not as good as WW. Thor was garbage IMO.

The first Thor was the shit. WW was cheesy as can be and I've seen all the action sequences with shields and whips and nazis and bullets bouncing off shit in about a dozen different movies already.

Asgard was a lot more impressive and memorable than Amazonia or whatever. Loki was a better villain than German Nazi Man. WW went from a hot chick with a sexy accent to a bitch that needed to stfu about 30 minutes in. It was a well done but by the numbers comic book movie.

    Spider-Man 2
    Thor
    Avengers
    X2
    Ironman
    All much better.

Some of the earlier comic movies were good fantasy movies. The studios had realized from past failures that they had to put more effort and take it seriously and they were trying to come up with the right formula. Now that they've got the ball rolling and the formula copyrighted they're pretty silly. I don't look forward to them coming out anymore but I usually check them out.

'Thor' has some neat visuals, sets and costumes, but it is still a mediocre movie I watched only once. Natalie Portman was badly miscast here too. I am glad she is not returning in 'Thor: Ragnarok' which by its trailer looks like it will be the best 'Thor' movie in the trilogy. Looking forward to that one.

How can you enjoy that Thor movie when there is hardly any Thor in the movie. It's not like it has some deep underrated back story going on either. It's mostly Blake (Thor) meeting and hanging out with his human friends while we keep looking at our watches wondering when he's going to change into Thor. It's garbage.

Asgard, the rainbow bridge, Loki, Odin... All good stuff. The final battle in the rainbow bridge is one the best 3D scenes in comic movies. The banter was funny, the guy was great as Thor and it was perfectly cast.

It didn't have the most elaborate plot ever but it had a plot. Not some Cartoon Network shit like the Winter Soldier or random action like civil war or convoluted nonsense like Iron Man 3. It was well paced and developed the character for future appearances.

Wonder Woman comes off as a French bimbo with no real character or personality at all. She's either coy and sexy, naive and funny or she's like "Thees ees naught rhoight! " Tbf the guy that played Thor is a more experienced legit actor.

Terp thinks the plot for 'Thor' was more elaborate than the one for' Captain America: The Winter Soldier', whom he ranks as Cartoon Network shit! LOL the plot for CA:TWS was universally praised by critics who compared it to the great espionage political thrillers of the 70s!
