this is such an intriguing fight to me. So many imponderables.

I used to think PBF would beat Cotto quite handily. Using his superior speed, utilising potshots to maximum effect, and his great D stopping him from taking too many shots from Cotto.

But from what I can see, Cotto is just getting better and better. Every punch he throws carries great power and his hands are surprisingly fast themselves. He can pressurise and has shown more intelligence in his pressure in the last few fights.

Personally, I think he can take Floyd to deep deep waters.

REED'll Put it this Way....The Loooooooooonger Floyd Puts it Off, the LOWER his Chances of WINNING Become....

If Floyd DOESN'T Fight Cotto N 2008, REED'll Probably Pick Cotto to BEAT him N 2009...Floyd IS who is IS, whereas Cotto is Still IMPROVING...

Sure, it was ONLY Alfonso Gomez Last Night, But Cotto Looked FAST, SHARP & POWERFUL...Dude's a Certified ASSASSIN & Even NOW, the Question is, Can Floyd MAKE Cotto RESPECT his Punch???:dunno: ...

If Floyd CAN'T, Cotto WAXES him & the Fact that REED CAN'T Answer this Question Himself is All the MORE Reason Floyd-Cotto SHOULD Take Place....

Right now Cotto vs Margarito is a toss up, so I'd say no.

I haven't seen last night's fight but I've been saying for a long time that Cotto is Floyd's biggest challenge at WW, I'd still pick Floyd but that's the best match-up that can be made in boxing IMO.

Margarita's Toooooooooooooo HITTABLE to Beat Cotto...

If Cotto Hits Margarita as EASILY as Cintron Did, Margarita's TOAST....Yep, Cintron is a Better 1 Shot Puncher, but Cotto's Power REMAINS the Same Round 1-Round 12...

AND, UNLIKE Cintron, Cotto WON'T B Deterred when Margarita has his "Moments" During the Fight...Cotto DOESN'T Hit as Hard, but his Shots R More ACCURATE & PRECISE...Cintron's a Heavyhanded WINGER, Compared to Cotto...

Cotto's the PERFECT Blend of SKILL & MACHISMO...Margarita can MATCH Cotto N TOUGHNESS, but Cotto's SKILL Level will B the Difference...

WOW:bears: I agree Cotto is improving and is showing very fast and heavy hands. What is impressing me alot about Cotto is his jab. In the last few fights he becoming very confident using his jab. He also seems very comfortable switching to southpawl. Cotto/PBF will be a awsome fight.

I'm not sure who I favor yet. PBF has proven me wrong too many times.

Cotto looked very impressive yesterday. Floyd Mayweather is still the best fighter alive so I'd take Floyd in 11 rounds. As fast as Cotto is Floyd is equally as fast with much better defense and more skill. The only thing that concerns me at this point is Floyd's age and his desire to still be a fighter then a self promoter.

Yeah but Cotto/Margarito will be a war for as long as it goes and I think that might hurt Cotto, especially if his next fight is PBF.

Cotto is closing the gap. He is able to do more things in the ring and his defense and footwork is getting better. As I see it the big problem for Cotto was that he was hittable and that he had to set to iniate a body attack against an opponent. The gap between Cotto's attack and Floyd was such that Floyd by controlling this gap would have made Cotto look amateurish. For an exxageration of this idea, Floyd's check hook is a good example.

But Cotto is getting a lot better at jabbing prior to entering that gap. Floyd's weakness is that his style, in similar fashion to James Toney, is very vulnerable to an excellent jab. Floyd actually has to be close to his opponent to counter.

At this point I think the fight is a toss up. Cotto can drop Floyd with a body attack though. And Cotto is as fast as Floyd for what its worth. Floyd still punches even straighter but they are both accurate.

I agree with REED and others that the longer Floyd waits the better Cotto gets..

Honestly.. I was very VERY impressed with Cotto last night.. VERY impressed. He not only looks to be a better boxer but he has VERY fast hands and Awesome power. I see it as a dangerous fight for Floyd.

I would still pick Floyd but it's not like the Hatton fight where I believed that Floyd could bang with him and out box him..

there is no doubt that Cotto would be the puncher there and no doubt he is capable of hurting Floyd.

I would actually think Floyd will get hurt in this fight, maybe dropped.. but he will be smart and recover and still win.. But Cotto is a Baaaaaaaaaaaad man and I would not be at all shocked if he stopped Floyd

Well Floyd got his wish and had all the welterweights fight each other. If he doesn't take on the winner of Cotto/Margarito, he will be letting his fans down. I'll call him a bitch too.

I'm always on drugs, but I still make Mayweather the favorite.

I'm not that confident in that pick though. Like a 60/40 type thing.

I think Cotto's got a tough fight ahead though against Margarito.

I'm pretty sure Cotto's already called him out.

Not sure if he's done it in English yet, though.

Well, maybe if he had Max Kellerman setting him up it would've worked better.

Mayweather: the "champion" of the best division in boxing and he hasn't even fought a ranked one in a year and a half.

This is why those designations are meaningless...or at least much less meaningful then some make them out to be.

Cotto's resume is already superior to Mayweather's, or any other wetlerweight's.

It's not just that Mayweather's come up with excuses, it's that his dance schedule is already basically laid out for the rest of this year and probably to the middle of next year...and neither of his prospoed fights involve a ranked welterweight.

Mayweather may be regarded as "the champ" at 147, but if it was based on accomlpishment at the weight, I'd actually rank Cotto above him.
