LIVE’s Club Nokia for the October 28 edition of “Fight Night Club†it won’t be just as a fan, but also as a father, as his son Shane Mosley Jr. will be competing that night in an amateur bout on the card headlined by undefeated Gary Russell Jr.’s bout against Guadalupe De Leon. The 19-year-old Mosley will compete in a junior middleweight fight. “I’m very proud of Shane Jr. and I know all the hard work he’s been putting into his boxing career,†said Mosley Sr. “This is a tough sport, but he’s got the heart, determination and talent to make it.â€
If young Shane Mosley Jr. puts in enough work in the gym and stays out of trouble and dedicates himself enough he will in no time be using steroids and have an Asian wife who bosses him around.
Having a great fighter for a father does not necessarily guarantee a pedigree of success for a young boxer. In fact, it is often a detriment as folks expect him to live up to his dad's accomplishments. 19 is a very late age to start boxing as an amateur, by the way. Karl
19 is an older age to start, but in this day and age, 15 amateur fights means you're ready to turn pro and you can do that in a year! There aren't many people on the low end doing the 50 to 100+ fight routine anymore. That's probably why boxing's getting worse! There are talented guys but they're learning mostly on the job in the pros. Blame the sorry ass olympic scoring system in part! Guys no longer hang around for the prestige of an olympic gold medal.
