Pretty straight forward. Rank, in your opinion, the top 5 best punchers the sport has ever seen P4P. My list: Jackson Foster Tyson Hearns Foreman Honorable mentions: Louis, Marciano, and Arguello.
Cuevas had great power, but he never showed it against the good fighters he faced. Who's the best fighter he ever hurt? Ranziny? Espada? Gray? Hardly the stuff of legend. I can't put him among the best ever because of that. Also, he don't have that many highlight reel ko. He was beating them up and busting them up, but he has very few ko where he put the guy to sleep. I can only think of Volbrecht and Garcia
Cuevas comp is a tad under rated. No all timers but he consistently fucked up serious solid contenders.
They weren't total nobodies, bu they weren't specials either. When we're talking about the best punchers ever, I think we have to nitpick that much
Based on what he did to lesser fighters there's not much doubt he could ice Hearns or Duran if he caught them right or hit them enough. It's not like his punches just bounced off the better guys he fought. He lost because they were better.
While he didn't landed anything on Hearns, he landed a few shots on Duran, and it didn't seems to bother him too much. By the same token, can we put David Lemieux among the best puncher ever? He pretty much iced every C level fighters he faced, but as soon as he went up against A and B fighter, his power seems inextistant or not that special.
You're losing context. Cuevas was a champ icing legit contenders. LeMoo is a contender beating up fringe contenders and he's not really killing them like Cuevas was either.
It was an example that was obvioulsy absurd. But it points out that power against a certain quality of opponents doesn't always translate against better quality of guys. For me, to be considered among the best puncher ever, you should have koed (Or at the very least seriously hurted) some elite fighters, or at least guys that are known for their granite chins. Cuevas did neither. Also, as I said, Cuevas didn't really koed stiff a lot of guys. And he landed a lot on most of the guys he koed, he doesn't have a lot of one punch ko. He's obviously a very hard puncher, but I don't think he rates among the best ever.
Tua was a very very good puncher. Not sure He cracks the list, but I don't think I know of any fighter who changed the course of a fight with only one punch more often than him
Pryor Had POP For Sure, but ACCUMULATION Was What Got His Foes Out of There, Primarily... REED:hammert:
accumulation and the wildly unpredictable nature of his combination punches... he was an outlandish combination puncher
yep. AMong the best along with terry norris. The way he was throwing them effortlesly was beautiful. But he wasnt close to being one of the greatest puncher ever
In fact: Louis. Shavers, jackson, Hearns, foster, louis. Yes chris, that's my final answer, stop the clock.
PAcquiao power at the lower weight was frightening. Probably deserves a mention. But still, it was more his speed, intensity and accuracy that were the reason of his succes rather than pure power
yeah, tha's not the point though. THe question is if you would consider him among the hardest punchers ever. I wouldn't personally
No, but guys who have incredible handspeed often get "points deducted" in the power department because of it. Look at Roy Jones for example. He's got some impressive knockouts, a few of which are of the one punch variety but his name is rarely brought up in such lists.
yeah, but they tend to land much more often than the slower fighter, thaT's why we can say their power is not as good
Top 5? No way in Hell. Pac has NO case whatsoever over guys like Foster, Tyson, Jackson, Foreman in terms of power. I'd also consider guys like Edwin Rosario and Trinidad to be bigger punchers than Pac and they're not top 5 either.
But Arguello wasn't a one shot guy either, his combination delivery is what made him so good. This thread is weird anyways... I mean X himself said the other day he thought with one punch Lewis hits harder than Tyson, but in this thread he includes Tyson and not Lewis so he must mean something different with puncher, no?
