The ghost of christmas yet to come visits you in the night; shows you all your glory and all your sickness and suffering. Do you go back to the gym in the morning?
If Muhammad Ali Isn't THE Most FAMOUS Person on the Planet, REED DOESN'T Know WHO is...Ali had FAME, FORTUNE, Practically EVERY Woman @ his DISPOSAL AND he was THE Guy that Most Dudes Wanted to "Hang Out" w/... As DREADFUL as the Last 25 Years or So have been to Ali, those 1st 30+ Years were WORTH it in REED's Opinion...& the Thing is, Ali's Mind is STILL Sharp, it's his MOTOR SKILLS that have Badly Deteriorated... Basically, the Question is, "Would U Rather B JOE BLOW or MUHAMMAD ALI?"....EASY Question for REED to Answer...Even N his CURRENT State, Ali has Considerably MORE Earning & Pussy Getting POTENTIAL than "Joe Blow" Does... REED:cheer:
Is there any real demonstrable evidence his mind is sharp, as Reed claims? I think he suffers an awful lot too, day-to-day. To have an informed decision, we should be as well-versed in Alis condition --- both the Syndrome, & beyond --- as we are on his career & exploits.
From Everything REED has HEARD about Parkinson's Syndrome, it's Like Being IMPRISONED in Your Own Body...Not Sure if it's just TALK, but Ali's Wife EMPHATICALLY States that Ali's MIND is as Sharp as Ever, it's just his Motor Skills & Abilty to VERBALIZE his Thoughts that Suffers.... REED:dunno:
Youd really hang your last few decades of life on her word? I doubt his ailments dont extend beyond the Syndrome, too. Gotta be some significant damage upstairs from his career.
i voted yes.. but the more i think about it.. i think i'd say no he had an INCREDIBLE run... but if you look at life.. real life, not just the glamour he had..
For me, no. Its just how I am- I need to end well rather than start well. Time flies. Ali has been sick since 1980. Thats 31 years of diminishing health. Is HW boxing better for Ali? Is boxing better for Ali? Yes and No. Some changes would have happened anyways. Same with the Civil Rights movement. Ali may have been a catalyst, or an agent of change but it was coming anyways. Ali will say he is happy but there must be a terrible sense of regret. Remember, Ali said he would have quit if he had known his jaw was broken when he lost to Norton. I think a 17 year old boy would have been pretty scared by the spectre of progressive physical and mental decline from his 38th birthday onwards.
Yes. Parkinson's can be accelerated by taking punches, but it isn't caused by it. He would've wound up suffering from it sooner or later anyway.
I would rather have lived those glory years without regret as opposed to taking the safe course AND still running the risk of being stricken with a terrible illness or dying young due to something else.
A Few Years Ago, Ed Bradley Did a "60 Minutes" Piece on Muhammad Ali...During the Piece, Ali Dozed Off & his Wife Spoke of How he had NARCOLEPSY...A Clearly SADDENED Bradley Looked @ Ali & Shook his Head in PITY of the Champ's Condition...Then, Out of Nowhere, Ali Woke Up & Playfully LUNGED @ Bradley, who Damn Near Jumped OUT of his Seat... Muhammad Ali is AWARE of what's Going On, he's just UNABLE to Verbalize his Thoughts & he Moves Around like he's 95 Years Old... REED:mj:
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. Theodore Roosevelt
Thats all very good. I bet Roosevelt could remember what he ate for lunch the day he coined that phrase. Its not like Ali tried, and failed, or tried, and won, its that he tried, and won, and then spent the next three decades failing.
Seems like nobody else saw this post happen, because people are continuing to talk as though it didn't
He's still there mentally...didn't think so until I met him last December. I'm sure he's in some measure of pain and moves very slow but that happens to everyone. he's what...68 or 69 and gets around like someone 20 years older.
Here's something which should curb or accelerate your hatred of Ali...you know he's part Irish. Could be your cousin. Doesn't that make you :goingmad: :bears:
