Titles were CONSIDERABLY Easier to Win in Floyd's Era, than in ANY Other Era of Boxing, Bruh... "Fought More Titlists" SOUNDS Good and Impresses CASUAL Fans, But You ALREADY Know There's More to it Than That... Nice Try Though... REEDo_O
Referencing Leonard DOESN'T Help Floyd's Case...Leonard Has a BETTER Resume in FEWER Fights... Floyd Doesn't Have a Single Win that Compares to Benitez, Duran or Hearns, Nevermind 3 Wins...As for Hagler, Leonard Overcame a DETACHED Retina and a 3 Year Layoff to Win that Fight...Again, Floyd has NATHAN Remotely Comparable... State Your Case, but Leave Leonard OUT of it...It DOESN'T Help Floyd's Cause @ All Bruh.... REED
Benitez was champion so Leonard HAD to fight him if he wanted to be champion too. You don't think Mayweather would have taken a similar risk as challenger? That's what challengers do...they fight the champion when they get a chance. Duran was a lightweight who was getting older and Leonard was expected to win easily....and Leonard lost to him. When Floyd had a celebrated seasoned skillful accomplished lightweight move up to face him (Marquez) he beat dat ass with consummate ease. Hearns was a GREAT matchup and a great victory....but Ray Struggled big time. Hagler fight was strategically timed and the subsequent fights with Duran and Hearns were by far not the most formidable opponents for Leonard to have fought at the time and most think he lost to Hearns anyway. lalonde was a joke fight. Mayweather can't help that he didn't have the names of Duran, Benitez and Hearns to fight....but he fought whoever was around him to fight, and won easily. Herrnandez was the champion (and a good champion) when Floyd challneged for the title and he beat him. Corrales was a former titlist and still undefeated and considered Floyd's biggest threat and he beat him easily. Castillo was a big lightweight and considered the best lightweight at the time and Floyd moved up and beat him with one hand. Mayweather's list of names on his resume is very impressive. He may not have the fabulous four on his resume (plus benitez)...but he has teh who's who of his own era (which is all a fighter can do) and has far greater numbers of HOF caliber names on his resume than even Leonard does: Cotto, Canelo, Judah, Castillo, Corrales, Hatton, Pacquiao, Marquez, De La Hoya, Mosley In terms of objective measures...there's no case for Leonard above Mayweather...dominance and longevity must count for more when you consider the number of weight classes and high caliber names during that stretch. Twenty years of dominance. That simply doesn't happen in boxing....or any sport for that matter. I'm right and you're wrong. History will absolve my position.
Never read anyone defend/nut-sack-ride so hard or relentless for someone so bad as Stafford does for Mayweather. Even for Internet standards, it truly is bizarre.
Sly believes some of what he says but probably exaggerates how highly he thinks of Floyd just to get a rise out of people.
The hate for Mayweather is strong with this one (this forum). If a man can't get respect after dominating for 20 years and 5 weight classes and retiring undefeated, with that collection names on his resume....then there's nothing he could have done, expect be born in a different era.
No, Sly truly does believe his own bullshit. He really does believe that Floyd is greater than Robinson, Leonard, and Duran, and really believes that Floyd would have beaten Robinson, and Hagler. That's what's sad.
Robinson was beaten by Lamotta, who was shorter, had shorter arms, was slower, less elusive, not as smart as Floyd. I don't see why it's a stretch. Robinson hit harder and was more exciting than Floyd, but Mayweather was a smarter boxer. Just because he's THE Ray Robinson, doesn't mean he was from the planet Krypton. As for Hagler...no don't pick Floyd FOR SURE over Hagler...given Hagler's long arms, southpaw style and activity, but given that Duran ran Marvin close and don't see why Floyd couldn't have improved upon that. Floyd is very difficult to outbox or to KO. Again...I'm not overrating Floyd, the rest of you are underrating him.
Floyd has greater accomplishments than Fassbender at this point in time, but Fassbender has the potential....
Haha. How’s Marvin going to splatter Floyd? Duran survived him...and considering Duran was splattered by hearns in just two short rounds and Floyd hasn’t even tasted canvas, by what reasoning does Hagler splatter Mayweather?
Well, for a start, Mayweather would be weak from the severe shitting himself beforehand - entering the ring itself would make the nerves even worse, and 5 minutes later Hagler goes through Mayweather like ´pigs going thru bones like buttah´. Its that simple, simpleton.
Yeah...Mayweather has a history of "shitting himself" before a fight. Hagler struggles with Mayweather's ring generalship and elusiveness. Not saying Floyd definitely wins, but it's a close fight.
Because as I correctly pointed out, Lomachenko is a better 130lb'er after 11 fights than Mayweather was after 24...
Well while Floyd was busy telling us how great he was, Manny Pacquiao was out there proving to us how great he was. While Floyd was picking and choosing the safest opponents to keep his perfect record in tact Manny threw caution to the wind and fought every dangerous opponent in and above his weight class, financial sense be damned. So if you want to know why Floyd may not get the respect you think he deserves, you can start right there and just know history will not forget his cowardly ways.
LMAO. This actually made me crack up laughing...I'm not just saying that to heap scorn on your post. "and just know history will not forget his cowardly ways" - Single best line on this forum for a while.
Floyd is a victim of his own approach. He famously said "Legacy don't pay the bills" and he's reaping it. It's clear he's missing the limelight and is bored to death in retirement. And if he tries his hand at MMA, that's just stupid. He'll get crushed.
Would have been interesting to see pbf in mma 10 years ago. Now its only a wasye of time, and he wont do it anyway
I have to laugh at all this “while Floyd was fighting easy opponents, Pacquiao was fighting the worlds most dangerous men..yada yada”. I seem to remember Pacquiao fighting these guys after Floyd already beat them and better versions of them ; de la Hoya, Hatton, Mosley. I remember Pacquiao facing Marquez four times....Floyd faced Marquez in his first comeback fight after a little break as a warm up. Pacquiao faced Margarito after Mosley already wiped the floor with him and Floyd fought Mosley in Shane’s very next fight after he wiped the floor with Margarito. Pacquiao fights clottey and Floyd faced Canelo. Pacquiao faces Barrera and morales and Floyd faced Corrales and Castillo. So help me out lb4lb, explain how Pacquiao faced terminators while Floyd faced Ewoks
