Wave it off, or let it go. Ref totally interefered to save Fury via dodgy standing 8. Usyk's camp should complain and go for a TKO ruling.

Yeah but he can box too, he's a huge bloke who recognises he has that advantage and will utilise it, unlike guys like AJ. I'm not even trying to argue he's a great fighter, just that he's a bit better than simply being "big", he's not a Valuev or Carnera.

One thing which annoyed me when I was watching, when Fury pivoted away the straight right was there for the taking and he NEVER threw it. Just step in and throw it. You're in range and Usyk is walking into it.

Yeah I thought that was pretty straightforward, his earlier bounces were ‘rope a dopes’ despite him being hurt a bit. Ref got it right when he was legit KD’d into the ropes. If he was normal size they probably wouldn’t have caught him right at his center of mass and kept him up like that.

Berenchyk is impressive imo. Really crafty. Navarette did look shitty. But might just be because Berenchyk's defense was so good.

Good day for Ukraine. Loma, Usyk, and now Berinchyk winning within a week. Congrats to them.

I can't find anything in the unified rules about that being able to be called a KD followed by mandatory 8 because you're on the ropes. It might be in some jurisdictions.

Interesting. For some reason I believed that having the opponent being held up by the ropes was a legitimate way to score a KD.

Yeah, interesting post. At the time I felt that the ref considered it a KD on the basis that Fury was basically being held up by the ropes and was only still standing because he was too massive to fall over from that position. You're right, though - there's nothing in the rules about that and I think he could have let them carry on. Might need to clarify the rule on that one for future.

I suspect it is in some jurisdictions. When I saw the ref run in I thought he was gonna wave it off, and was super confused when he started a count.....I thought that Saudi Arabia had some weird standing 8 rule or some shit.

At any rate Usyk won so it's not a huge deal, but if Fury had got the nod it certainly would have been.

I read that it is a rule in some places, and suspect the ref was genuinely concerned for Fury, but to me if he was concerned that's a wave off not a count. Guys get pummeled against the ropes all the time and the ref tends to stop them, not start a count.

It used to be a standing 8 but we've not had them for ages. Oddly, I didn't really think about it at the time because I was just waiting for the big oaf to finally fall over lol

If that ref had let usyk finish off Furry with a vicious kill shot it may have jeopardized a rematch

I know we're all old and grumpy here and heavyweights are double- passe but Im still pretty high on that fight last night i thought it was fucking great. Two proper heavyweight champs with balls and heart fitting the title

Can't stand Fury and delighted that he got battered, but on watching it again, he was basically sitting on the ropes with his head ducking down below the top rope. When a fighter has basically been knocked down and is using the ropes as a hammock, are you supposed to let the fight continue?

It was obviously going to be a 10:8 round anyway, but in a similar situation where say Fury was briefly stunned, staggered back and slumped on the ropes like that and then bobbed back up and completed the round, not calling it a knockdown would have cost Usyk a point

Thats true. Eddie’s best 130lb’er in the world had the dogshit beaten from him so he wasn’t gonna take another big L like that.

Only way I could have given 7 rounds to Fury is if I had gave him the benefit of the doubt in all the close rounds (2, 3, 12)

As it happened, I had it 115-112 to Usyk.
    Difficult to disagree.

I rate Fury's best performances highly (Wlad, Wilder 2, Chisora 2), but I have been underwhelmed by the past 4 years of his career.

Wilder 3 - Exciting bout, but I couldn't shake the feeling that great heavyweights of previous generations would have beaten Wilder with greater ease. I had the same feeling after their first bout too.

Whyte - Good performance, but I have always found Whyte to be overhyped.

Chisora 3 - Beyond keeping him busy and lining his pockets, a waste of time. Chisora was clearly shot and Fury had beaten the best version 8 years prior.

    Ngannou - An embarrassing performance.

Not everyone. "The title may only be undisputed for a short time as the IBF won’t permit the automatic rematch."

Pretty sure I did too. I agree, if you gave Fury 2/3/12 then sure you could say he won, but I definitely thought Usyk took twelve and got off to a good start.
