I remember people saying it had something to do with Frank Warren. Anyone know what happened exactly? :dunno:
I heard the same. Warren had part ownership, or still have. you couldn't even type "Frank Warren" in the forum. He started to whine and bitch, and the whole forum had to be shut down. It was the only good thing about the whole thing, secondsout.com sucks
Being UK-based Warren threatened litigation a few times for comments posted on forums (boxrec has had similar prioblems), there were steps taken to avoid mentioning him, werent that effective and the powers that be decided it was hardly worth the hassle to keep the forum running, I'm guessing.
I thought it was down to people were quite rightly criticizing Joe Calzaghe (poor opponents, always pulling out of fights, etc) and Frank 'Pig-In-A-Suit' Warren and his team didn't like it.
Warren threatened to sue the website/organization after a forum member named Spud, who used to work for him apparently, kept badmouthing Warren. Anytime anyone said anything critical about Warren, the website would receive emails and such. Frank then started stepping it up through a lawyer, and they folded it all up.
Yeah, I believe that was the case. Libel laws are much stricter in the U.K. then in the U.S. and Warren took advantage of that to basically have the forum shut down through legal pressure. Imagine if Don King or Bob Arum could do that in the U.S.? All boxing forums would be shut down within a month. Or maybe King and Arum would be smart enough to realize any publicity is good publicity when it comes to selling fights. :dunno:
I miss the Secondsout forum. In its prime it was WAY better than this forum. Even though Fightbeat is a better overall site than Secondsout was. But as far as forums go, Seconds out was the best.
Secondsout was where it was at. Best boxing forum possibly ever. But right now, Fightbeat is easily the best. The more knowledgable people post here.
well, that's not really true either. People believe that based on the idea that this is a public forum, however, if you're website is making money than that doesn't apply. Cupey
This forum has declined badly IMO. It was way better 3-4 years ago back when thier was more knowledgable posters who actually wanted to talk boxing, rather than act like a bunch of fuckin 15 year olds! Theres too many idiots on here nowadays who resort to childish insults for no reason, and you see way more racists posts on here nowadays than was the case a few years ago. I fear that one day this forum MIGHT end up like the Boxingfanatic forum. I hope not, but thats where its eventually headed.
I don't remember you on secondsout, did you have the same login name? What about Boxingfanatics in its prime?
^^^^Xplosive was DEFINITELY a member at Secondsout, I remember him well. His "If the world of boxing was a school thread" was a classic for sure. I also always remember the Slystaff vs Phonetap feud. HILARIOUS back and forth arguments.. So many members disappeared, though. Or maybe they just all have different screenames since I came to Fightbeat kinda late.
  Ahhh yes I remember.... that was in my posting prime. You shoulda seen me back then Hex, I was somethin else.
Secondsout was a tight ass site until punk ass Leeder banned me, but Alabamaman saved me and brought me back. However that shit was tight as hell. I'll Holla 5000
I was one of the first-ever to post on that forum on the night it went live in 1998 - myself, Simes and either Erasurehead or El Diablo Fan were chatting.
I was there pretty much from the get go too, but maybe a couple of months after you. Did you have the same name back then Mustard?
No - I was Cleto Reyes until that little twerp Alabama_Man banned me for using the phrase 'Mexican roadsweepers' when describing their boxers. That, apparantly, was racist. :dunno:
Oh fuck, I remember Cleto Reyes, I had no idea it was you :: For some reason I thought Cleto was American, not indeed your good quintessentially British, Midlands self.
SecondsOut was a great forum. I miss the discussions and debates that went on there. Fightbeat was a really good forum at first, but it has slipped considerably over the past few years.
I just realised I must have been at SO from the very start, because I was posting when it was still boxingpress.com
