OCULUS GENRE - HORROR PREMISE - A young boy who was locked up in the loony bin for shooting somebody gets released on his 18th birthday. He is reunited with his sister whom has just acquired an old mirror from the home they grew up in. The sister along with her brother intend to prove to the world that the mirror is possesed by an evil spirit and that the mirror is the cause of her brother killing someone along with the dozens of other owners of the mirror who perished under violent and mysterious circumstances. CRITIQUE - Outstanding film and the best horror movie I've seen in a really long time. I mean I hate the horror movie genre and yet I was really drawn into this film. The story, dialogue, pacing, were all top notch, but other than the story maybe the strongest element was the directing. The way the present day story was intertwined with the past story from when the brother and sister were children and how they were dealing with their parents and the mirror of the past, was done really well. There was also a lot of cool scenes in the film, like when the girl was telling the history of the mirror, or how the mirror would bend reality. There were also a lot of creepy scenes as well but I don't recall them trying to do the cheap, make you jump scares. I highly recommend this movie especially if you like the genre, but even if you don't I think you'll enjoy this if you're not the scary type. SCORE - 7.5/10
Just watched this. Agreed. It was very good. Definitely one of the best horror movies of the last few years. I think it was waaaaayyyyy better than that overrated shit movie Insidious.
Watched this back in June - excellent movie and for me, had somewhat of a 'throwback' or nostalgia horror feel to it.
Like I said, it was everything Insidious was hyped to be. Insidious was suppose to be one of the best horror movies in years, so the critics said. But I thought it was pretty mediocre. Oculus was the real deal, and received no hype.
Insidious shits on Oculus. Not even on the same level. I dont even consider Oculus a horror. Just a thriller.
I watched Oculus on Netflix the other night. It was ok. Worth watching once if you're in the mood. There's been a slew of haunted house movies made that are pretty much all the same. It is what it is. TFK
It's not the same old crap. It's different. Im just not sure how you would take it. Check out Rottentomatoes for reviews and see if it interest you.
