When a losing fighter tests positive the result stands. If the winner does then the bout is usually changed to a no contest.

I can't recall a fight where both fighters tested positive for a banned substance, although I'm sure it must have happened before. (I'm talking specifically about PED's, not recreational drugs.)

If both fighters test positive for steroids does the result stand or is it also a no contest?

The CLOSEST REED Can Recall to this Instance is Roy Jones vs. Richard Hall...

Both of them Initially FAILED their Post-Fight Drug Screens, but then Both PASSED RE-Takes...Given the Bout was Held in Indiana, REED's Always Questioned the Legitimacy of the Indiana Boxing Commission, MORESO than Roy or Hall Being Dirty that Night...

Probably if they had fights in Baseball like they do in Hockey you would have two fighters that would both fail steroid tests

Whether or not steroid use is/was as rampant as in baseball I don't know but it wasn't the question. :nono:

Also don't bring hockey into this unless you want to be extradited to Canada for violating hate speech laws and spend your remaining days in a maximum security igloo.

It should be a No Contest, but I can't remember it happening before.

Checked the WBC site: They just have discretionary rules about the effect on WBC rankings and stripping of titles.

Checked ABC site: Didn't find anything in the unified rules.

I'm guessing that State commissions should provide the answer and most or all don't.

Edit: I found an example: James Toney split win over Danny Batchelder. Both tested positive and banned for a year. Result left alone and still stands.

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=2902823 Armando Garcia, the California State Athletic Commission's executive officer, said Toney and Danny Batchelder, his opponent in a heavyweight bout May 24 in San Jose, tested positive for two types of steroids....Toney tested positive for boldenone and stanazolol, and Batchelder tested positive for stanazolol and oxandolone, Garcia said....Toney won a split decision over Batchelder, an outcome that won't be changed, Garcia said.

With alphabet organisations I think everything is settled when it happens, they don't have actual rules for these. For example Tyson was caught from something back in 91 when he faced Ruddock but it was settled with a monumental 25,000 fine

Toney-Batchedler was one of the worst fights I have ever seen. I was at the fight.

If those drugs were actually "performance enhancing", I can't imagine how bad they would have looked if both were clean.
