White heavyweights with good chins?

in general are there relatively few white guys who have a good enough chin that they can take big punches at the heavyweight level?

was just watching 'Boxing's greatest upsets' videos, watched wald pussy get ko'ed by lamon brewster and tommy Morrison by bentt, started to think maybe there's a pattern

 

Vitaly Klitschko had a fantastic chin.

 

Chuvalo

 

Tex Cobb

 

Gerry Quarry, most of his losses were cut stoppages I believe.

 

Joe Bugner, Henry Cooper, Rocky Marciano, Nicolai Valuev

Golota had a solid chin. His mind was far more fragile than his chin.

 

Mavrovic (mohawk bum), Chuvalo, and Cobb. Unbelievable chins.

There are some ridiculously good white chins. In fact I've always considered chin/toughness to be one of the favourable aspects of white fighters, as noted by posters above.

Vitali, Mohawk Bum, Cobb, Chuvalo, Bugner, Cooper, Marciano, Valuev - that's a pretty top tier list of heavyweight chins.

 

I don't think Morrison necessarily had a bad chin. He took some good shots from Lennox and Foreman. His chin held up better than many other guys.

 

Yeah, I am not sure if there is a pattern here. there are more back guys with great chins but there are far more black guys on championship level too.

 

Nah, he went down four times against Lennox and the punches didn't look like much and Foreman hardly caught him. His chin was weak

 

The White Heavyweight of the 1970's was practically DEFINED by guys who had MONSTER CHINS and not much more besides........Cobb, Chuvalo, Wepner, Quarry, Stander....

In the 1970's the size and talent gap between the White heavies and the Black heavies was so pronounced that for Whitey to have any chance, the chin had to be good.

Scott LeDoux...took a pasting from Norton and basically Homer-Simpsoned the guy by waiting for Norton to get tired beating him up, then draped Norton over the ropes and would have got the W in the modern era {Norton, by the way, had a shitty chin}

In summary roosty, this is a bit like asking "Do black heavyweights lack the speed/slickness to compete at elite level?" after watching some David Izon and Sam Peter fights.

Vitali shipped some big punches from Sanders early on and was nowhere close to being in the same kind of trouble as Wlad was. As big a Khan fan as I am, I'm never going to be on here saying he's a welterweight Oliver McCall, he just isn't. I'm not going to say Wlad has the WORST chin I've ever seen on a heavyweight (Pele Reid has that title on lock), but he belongs nowhere near this thread ::

No...no wald pussy fights like an injured octopus in every fight because he wants to conserve energy. The chin has never been an issue....it's getting hit repeatable and not being able to ease the opponent attack that has been his downfall...you try to octopussa it when your hurt/stun...almost impossible. So wald has taken the initiative to fight like an octopus from round 1.

 

Wlad has heart. He never had Vitali's chin. Vitali could take a shot from a power puncher like it was nothing. Vitali had the chin along with the skills and power to be one of the best heavyweights historically.

Gerry Cooney could take a hell of an ass whipping in the 80s. He might not have been the best, but he had a good chin.
