The numbers are in. The December 8th HBO-PPV clash between Floyd Mayweather and Ricky Hatton generated 850,000 pay-per-view buys. The breakdown was 520,000 from cable and 330,000 from satellite. It was a tremendous year for Floyd, who's bout with Oscar De La Hoya in May generated an all time record 2.4 million buys.

not as high as some have expected, but nevertheless, it's up there.

mayweather-cotto would surpass that easily.

Damn, I thought the expected was around 1.5M buys?

How much did Mayweather make? Surely ol' Hatton couldn't have made more money than MONEY himself? :tease:

This fight was huge only in Britain and ODLH-Floyd was huge in States. As we can see, people still don't give shit about Floyd

The numbers are in, and pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather lived up to his new self-given nickname of "Money" Mayweather.

Mayweather's 10th-round knockout of England's Ricky Hatton to retain the welterweight championship Dec. 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas generated a whopping 850,000 domestic pay-per-view buys and $47 million in television revenue, HBO PPV's Mark Taffet said Monday

850K domestic is very very good for a non-Oscar DLH fight. Shows there are still some good fights out there and the sport is not dead....yet.
Too bad Pretty Boy has retired right when he was becoming a big box office hit. Bad time to retire, Pretty Boy.:nono: So much money to be made and you retire now? :dunno: He's retiring because he's afraid to lose most likely.

Arum said 400k, so I'm guessing it did around 350-375k.

6 months is my prediction.

Too much money for "money" to make, now that he's in the limelight....

The ONE fight I don't want to see again is Mayweather-De La Hoya II. So I hope that Cotto retires Oscar if they meet (Oscar may win though..)

I know.

If Cotto fights De La Hoya, I'll be praying that Cotto wins.

I cant even remember Floyd saying he would retire after the fight I thought he said something along the lines he might retire, but would talk to his entourage and Golden Boy before making a decision.

He said in the post fight presser that he's taking a long break, but also hinted slightly that he'd be back if he's made an offer he can't refuse.

If Cotto was to somehow KO Oscar (which I highly doubt) or at least dominate him (which I doubt also)...everyone will be saying (erroneously) that Cotto is the best Welter on the planet...and Floyd's ego wouldn't allow him to stay out of the mix...

So I'm hoping for that scenario...

The figures are pretty good, but they will be even better once the UK buys get factored into the total- I don't know a single person who didn't stay up and watch the fight somewhere over here

Cotto is clearly the only fighter left for Floyd to fight.

haha Mayweather makes 850,000 in the 50 states and Hatton makes 900,000 in England alone which probably doesn't have much more population.

Who is the bigger draw??  :dunno:

Mundine did something like 280,000 vs. Green. I guess p4p population wise he is the biggest draw in the world :bears:

A little general knowledge for you...

The USA is the THIRD most populous country in the world: only behind India and China. England is not even CLOSE to the same population!

900,000 in Great Britain, not England alone. There is a difference.

US has so many superstars (Basketball, NFL, Baseball, WWE etc) that 850,000 for a boxer is alot. In England every wants to see if their man can be the P4P...US is used to having P4P. In that context...of course Hatton is a bigger draw in England relative to Mayweather in the states.

It's like Manny pacquaio in teh Phillipines vs Oscar De La Hoya in the states. No comparison. Pacquaio is a FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR bigger star in his country than De La Hoya is in his own....does that mean that Pacquaio is a bigger star than De La Hoya?

You kids need to think a little bit more before posting or just merely learn from the wisdom of the sly!

Well done, you know what a normal 3rd grader knows.

Boxing is no more a major sport in USA. However boxing events can be huge, if the fighters are interesting. Floyd is not
