Sort of depends on your criteria.

If you believe fighters (especially HWs) get better over time and modern fighters would beat most older fighters, well I only semi-agree with it, but I can see the argument made.

But someone like Ali so consistently fought the top guys during his time, and beat most of them. Joe Louis made 25 successful defenses. That's an amazing achievement in any era. Some people rank fighters more on head to head (which I do not). I don't have a problem with people making Louis the underdog against 6'5 and up, 240+ lb athletic HWs of more modern times who don't have the achievements Louis did, but I can't rank them on "greatness" above Louis.

    "Internet bubble"?
-Is this another "I've been around the block a couple of times, & you're just a keyboard warrior"-type reference Karl?

Look up "ad hominem", & when you've done that, ask yourself this:

What if somebody who had been around the block one more time than you, considered Ali greater?

-Would that mean you were in an internet bubble?

Ali popularised the one, two, clinch combination, which has had a profound influence on todays heavyweight champions like Wladimir Klitschko,.. when Wladimir applies it effectively, I feel proud knowing the technique comes from a generation of old school fraternal roots,.. an unquestionable pleasure to the eyes.

Have Grant fight against little white midget mandatories on poor black and white footage and you'll change your mind,..

    Yup

There is no HW in history I'd pick to beat Lewis 6 out of ten times, but Ali is 'greater'...

Good call actually. Holmes could box, had a great jab and a good chin. Holmes got off the canvas to beat Shavers who was a murderous puncher. Lenny could get a knockdown on Holmes but I'm unsure if he could score a knockout.

I'd pay to see it. Then pay for the rematch regardless of who won the first.

Yeah, I like Holmes' jab against Lewis. Lewis could be out jabbed and in those circumstances usually reverted to a much more aggressive style, which I'm not sure would serve him much better against Holmes.

Ali is the greatest heavyweight. His resume is far superior to any other heavyweight in history.

When it comes to great victories in the prize ring, most will have already named at least two for Ali before getting to Louis' greatest.

Holmes is the most likely, I'd agree, because his style matches well with Lewis'. But I still wouldn't pick him to win six out of ten. Lewis was at his most impressive when he was forced out of his comfort zone and into a trade-fest. If Holmes managed to do so, he'd eat some very, very unpleasant right hands and that never bodes well.
