Broner beating Maidana would have been better for the sport, but everyone loved the outcome of that fight. I think many people feel the same about this fight. I used to like McGregor before his injury layoff, he had the right amount of arrogance and likeability and was a well spoken funny guy. Now he's become a caricature, kind of like Chael Sonnen in his later career, someone more suitable for pro wrestling than a real sport. I hope he gets humbled, and Aldo is the perfect guy personality wise to do it. ps, I REALLY want to bang Bec Rawlings bro. She did a seminar at my mt school a while back, hope she comes back soon, I'll put the moves on her.
Bec Rawlings? WTF!? She's an ugly skank, with a tiny head. But I do agree with you on McGregor for sure, he is like a caricature now. And like Broner, he simply hasn't achieved anywhere near as much as is required to justify that level of arrogance. He's a twat, just like Broner, only not quite as annoying.
Sure, it is an impressive streak without a doubt, but the thing is the guys you listed aren't exactly elite fighting machines are they? The best 2 guys are Faber and Edgar, and I thought Edgar beat him. I think a big part of it is the WEC/UFC transition, along with expectations. He did look like a vicious beast in the WEC, but he hasn't impressed me at all really in the UFC, at least in comparison. As you noted - 5 of his 7 wins have been decisions, and not the most impressive decision wins either, where he's battered his opponent from pillar to post. But yeah, I do at least partly agree with you that such a big winning streak is hard to ignore, even if he did officially lose to Edgar. And for that alone he deserves to be highly rated. It's just, to put it simply, when watching him fight in the UFC I can't help but think "There's no fucking way this guy is the best MMA fighter in the world P4P, or even close to it". Where as with other elite fighters like Silva, GSP, Jones, Weidman etc, it's pretty fucking clear they're the cream of the crop.
I dont think Broner winning would be better for Boxing. And Conor HAS to be out there. Who is going to promote the fight? Aldo? The man is a fucking statue.

Though I said Conor has somewhat of a fraud Air, the Dustin fight makes me think he just may be completely legit, and beat Aldo. That is a superb win, being the first guy to stop Poirier, in under 2 minutes to boot. I've always had a high opinion of Poirier, and he looked excellent in hammering that Yancy boy recently. BTW, to illustrate the overratedness of Aldo, UFC themselves have him as #1 P4P http://www.ufc.com/rankings Now, a lot of people think this is a close fight, and McGregor might win. Shouldn't the P4P#1 MMA fighter be an overwhelming favourite to destroy a guy who isn't even in the top 15?
Those rankings arent done by the UFC, they are done by the media. The UFC just posts them on their website.
BTW, I am a fan of Poirier too. I thought that fight was sort of bullshit. 1, Connor hit him in the back of the head several times before the fight was stopped and 2, Dustin is a fighter who has to take punishment before he starts doing something. Had Connor been warned for the low blows and this fight hit the 2, 3 rounds, it would have been more interesting. Still a big conor fan tho.
I don't really remember all that tbh, I was probably surprised that Conor was winning as I expected Poirier to beat him up. I'd like to see a rematch, I guess it's possible Poirier thought he was a fraud too and underestimated him, and/or if there's any truth to the back of the head/low blows etc.

Got to hand it to Connor McGregor. The dude has really infused some some genuine interest into the feather weight division. Early on I was picking Also, but McGregor has that look of a guy that is going to be champion. Now I have no idea how this one is going to play out. I like McGregor early and Aldo if it goes a few rounds.
He looks big compared to all his opponents. A decent height too, no way he's 5'8 as listed on Sherdog.
This is old, but it's great. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ggP1YTxrd6M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This could be terrible news for McGregor if the UFC does the right thing and let's Frankie Edgar or Chad Mendes replace Aldo. Both guys are the worst possible style match up for McGregor. I'd bet the house that the UFC doesn't let that happen. They don't want to miss out on the Aldo-McGregor bonanza so they'll probably opt for a Hollaway rematch or someone fringe top ten like Oliveira. I can't wait to see how this plays out.
There is no way that happens. You dont put in two top wrestlers on a guy on such short notice who was training for a striker like Aldo. If Frankie and Chad want to fight, they should fight each other and save the card. McGregor should hold off.
No the UFC won't do it but they should. I still contend that McGregor should have to beat Edgar or Mendes to get a shot at Aldo. So the stars have aligned perfectly for that to happen. I'll be curious to see if Dana White is as vocal about replacement opponents offered to McGregor as he has been with other fighters. Curious if he publicly shames Connor if he chooses not to fight a guy like Edgar on short notice like he did with John Jones. In my mind, there are only 2 guys I care to see McGregor in against if Aldo can't go. Edgar & Mendes. If you have to go to options 3 and 4, Bermudez or Lamas might do. Hell maybe even Faber.
Well that's pretty fucking annoying, I was actually really looking forward to seeing how legit McGregor really is.
If they want Conor to fight Mendes or Edgar, they should postpone the fight. Conor should have a full training camp focused on wrestling and takedown defense before he takes on the best wrestlers in the division. I don't like postponing fights, but Robbie vs Rory is still an excellent championship fight that night. It's not like the event is going to fall apart if Aldo / McGregor is called off.
Not for a fractured rib. That is a 6 week recovery. The difference of comp is too different to risk fighting those two. Mendes and Edgar should fight for the #1 contendership. they should not be fighting McGregor. Totally not fair to McGregor.
