I think the question was who did Duran dominate at 147? Well, for one, palomino. But more importantly, he also dominated srl! Not to mention at 154 he beat moore and cuevas. I think it's safe to say he beats the shit out of khan.
Khan doesn't have the chin to take a beating from Duran. Duran knocks him senseless in 4 rounds, TOPS! In all honesty, Duran takes out Khan whenever he decides to step on the gas. The gap between the two of them is so astronomical, that Duran could end the fight when he pleases.
I think Duran would purposely torture Khan for some rounds and then take him out mid to late because of the shit Khan and Roach would be talking. Then again, Khan's chin is so shit that Duran could take him out accidently.
:giggle: 1st fight was a three point fight at best... close as hell... that's why it was so great, two legendary fighters skillfully brawling for 15 rounds... Duran clearly won but it was no domination The second fight is commonly cited as a dominant performance but it was basically a 4-3 or maybe a 4-2-1 fight at worst when Duran inexplicably decided he didn't feel like boxing anymore Both fights were highly competitive
It was every bit as dominant as any of Whitaker ' s stink jobs which you count as one-sided schooling (when really they were just clinics in getting away with illegal holding with a few nice angles thrown in to keep guys like you from losing their hard-ons...). Okay. Not a domination. But one-sided in terms of consistently drawing srl into the kind of fight he couldn't win.
Duran won 11 or 12 rounds of the first fight. It was a borderline domination. I'd love to see one of these Sugar Ray groupies post their scorecard so we can see which rounds Ray allegedly "won" to make it a close fight :kidcool:
Yeah, 10 out of 15 rounds is a pretty dominant performance. You've won twice as many rounds as your opponent. That fight was what made me a hardcore boxing fan and Duran fan, I love it, and there is no way Ray won more than 5 rounds. As I said, personally I think he only won 3 or 4. It's not like Duran was battering him from pillar to post in these rounds, of course Ray was somewhat competitive, but Duran was winning the rounds and winning them clearly. He was the aggressor, he was landing more punches, he was controlling the pace and style of the fight. It was Duran's fight the WHOLE way through, basically. Even when Ray tried to box, he wasn't able to get the better of Duran.
:l2::l2::l2: If that's true. Benitez put on one of the finest boxing exhibitions in history in that fight. Duran won 4 rounds, tops. It was a dominant, and beautiful schooling on Will's part.
I don't know if it was close. But that was one of those fights when I got around to finally watching made me realize just how full of shit and prone to hyperbole so many on this site are. To read about it hear from the usual suspects, you'd think Duran hadn't landed a single punch. And if I recall correctly, it was a fairly tedious fight to watch. Hardly a beautiful schooling.
Tedious fight to watch my ass! Benitez stood right in front of Duran ALL FIGHT long, made him miss, and countered the shit outta him. Even FOUGHT with Duran in spots, and STILL dominated. It was a beautiful exhibition. What's YOUR idea of a great boxing exhibition? Rounds 1-8 of DLH-Tito I presume???
Duran was past his prime & lackluster in that fight, Leonard noted it repeatedly right from the beginning .. "Duran isn't fighting with the same rage he normally fights with" "Duran doesn't look as strong as he normally does" etc. iirc Merchant noted he looked slow as well. Plus, Benitez was a LOT bigger than Duran.
