Joshua deserves credit. If he never does another thing making cry a bunch of confused lads who think UFC/MMA can hang with boxing deserves major major credit.

Fury is the most chalk-cheese fighter the division has had for years. I actually cannot think of a guy who alternates- sometimes in the same fight- between terrible and elite .

Not a good imo example as baseball is definitely the top sport where athletic abilities and size are the least important. Furthermore I'd say that what MJ accomplished in baseball in his 30's, is way way more impressive than what the average person would given the same chance.

And yeah, MJ most probably wouldn't have been an ATG even if he had taken boxing at a young age. But his odds would be immeasurably better than that of the ''average'' 6'5 Joe, and this is the main point.

Amongst the 1000's of 6'2+ high school students currently dedicating themselves to football or basketball, there's no doubt in my mind that more than a few of them would make for some incredible hw fighters had they picked boxing instead.

 

Yes this happened across all weight classes but once again you are failing to address why this is far more pronounced at cw and hw (and I'd argue that basketball is also poaching a lot of potential hw stars in other countries, which further explain current hw mediocrity).

 

How do you explain American WW mediocrity?

 

Yeah they stink because they never dedicated themselves to it. I would still bet on them big time in a boxing fight against a similar sized average Joe even without taking stamina into account

Big talented men have always been thinner on the ground. Once you open the game up internationally you level the playing field fastest where the talent is thinnest.

That's the elephant in the room that those denying that willingly bllinds are avoiding. And it's not only the athletes that are/were in the NBA and NFL, but also all the athletes who tried to go into these leagues.


Three of the main ingredients of a top HW is size, dedication and athleticism. Pretty much all american who have all 3 are going into football or basketball. I can understand why a neo-nazi like Irish pretends that the surge of popularity of these 2 sports (and of the athletic scholarship in these 2 sports) doest have an impact on the quality of recent american boxers, but beside that....

 

Yet the best american HW boxer by far of the last 2 decades is a failed basketball players who took on boxing late
