Mercer is just too tough and durable. The Mercer that could have been on that decision against Lewis knocks AJ out within 6.
Mercer should win, if he were as good as he looked in the Lennox fight. However, apart from Morrison he never knocked out anybody worth damn and as fragile as Joshua might be, much worse fighters went the distance with Mercer. Joshua by decision
If we pick and choose the Ray from his very best night (in which he lost) and pit him against AJ the night he probably fought sick, then sure. I just don't think that's totally fair
In a prime for prime match Mercer would probably win by come from behind mid to late round TKO. In a best of three series, Joshua would win two out of three because Mercer would be lazy and didn't wanna deal with a 6'6", 238 lb. hippity-hop fighter
What was AJ best night? When he barely got through Wlad? When he got rocked and struggled against old man Povetkin Last saturday when he outboxed the fat lard?
Apart from brittle Morrison Mercer never knocked out anybody as good as those three, his only comparable win was a close decision over worn Witherspoon. Mercer's victory record is surprisingly lacking
At this point, going dead even with a prime Lewis trumps any Joshua performance. The Lewis of the Mercer fight would slaughter AJ. Is AJ even a lock over Morrison???? I sure as Hell don't think he is. Shitty Dyllian (or however the fuck you spell that scrub's name) Whyte hurt AJ with a left hook. Who's to say that Morrison wouldn't have laid him out cold?
It's very possible Morrison would have beaten AJ. He had the power, and more importantly the quick fists. Ray had neither. AJ would never have lost to Ferguson. Styles
Mercer beats him. Wlad laid an unholy beating on Mercer and Mercer still took some stopping. Ray was 40. Joshua cannot generate that sort of offense. And he doesn't have the skills to keep him off him any other way. So I see Ray finally getting to him but its probably very very late with Ray way behind.
