Never but my buddy sparred briefly with Colin "sweet C" Macmillan. My friend was on my level or better, with fast hands and power and good movement. He couldn't land a glove on Macmillan. Not a glove.

I sparred a fair few times with Travis and Jon Lewis Dickinson. Also trained quite regularly with Danny Moir at Lyndhurst BC. Not sure if any of them count - they all held domestic level titles but not much more :dunno: Was a great learning curve, getting the shit punched out of you  My younger brother, on the other hand, used to spar on pretty even terms with all three. A waste of a talented fighter is my young 'un. Had all the gifts you need except that fighter's instinct people have already talked about here. We were both trained by our uncle, Tommy Baldwin, who was a professional middleweight back in the day (http://boxrec.com/boxer/121265). He fought at British title level but never won one. Tough as nails but lost a load of fights due to cuts: he had tissue-paper skin. He used to make us spar with him using bag-gloves; had some mad idea about building up punch resistance or some madness

Lots of his losses came ten years after his 'prime' when he was skint. Typical fighter -couldn't walk away.

The draft from an open window opened his skin. Not that I'd tell him that. He's punch my face in.

my record would likely indicate things like... "A pawing, range-finding jab opened a 15-stitch cut above Clogg's right eye, forcing a stoppage at :24 of round one"

When you ask the average dude from the street if he could box successfully nobody seems to be that full of himself, but 80% of the times they have good power and are pretty quick... :slap:

    Exactly.
My trainer tells me "you have a great jab, fast hands but no power at your current weight. You'd be better off dropping down 25lb"

Yeah like that's going to happen...

I "sparred" with Tony Thompson a few times. I'm about 5'10 155 lbs so you can imagine how serious and furious the action was.

I slipped his jab and hit him with a clean two piece once. I wanted to throw my gloves on the canvas and victory lap around the ring. I couldn't get past his jab at range to save my life.

Back in my teens, I went to my local gym to get evaluation of my boxing abilities. The coach was quite impressed, actually, and said I could be a top-level boxer, if only I had the stamina, strength, power, and natural ability. I never followed-up on my potential, though...
