That had Berto-Mosley gone down.... Berto's 0 would have BEEN gone, and by KO? Theres no way in holy hell I can envision shit chinned Berto surviving the shots that rocked Floyd in the 2nd round. At best Berto would have done decent for a few rounds, but gotten caught with a big right hand, and been taken out.
Its possible but it is not safe. Ortiz came into that ring in far harder and bigger shape than Shane ever could have done. Shane is nigh on 40 man and would not have fought in anything like the manner Ortiz did.
It's difficult to say Xplosive. I was sure at the time Shane would KO him, but last night proved Berto is a BIT more durable than I thought. Yes his chin is pretty crap, but he recovers. If Shane couldn't literally KO him with 1 punch, he might have difficulty getting the stoppage.
Berto's actually LESS durable than I thought. The man has heart, but his chin is BELOW mediocre. Maybe not as bad as Conman's, but its WORSE than Judah's. Senior citizen or not, Shane is one of the best finishers the sport has ever had. Once he got Berto on real queer street, he would have likely hit the body, which would set up the finish.
I have to agree. Durable or not Berto would have to do more to avoid getting splattered than laying against the ropes when facing Mosley. (if hurt) He has no jab to keep Shane at bay. He didn't seem to even clinch hard or long enough even against an old Mosley to survive.
Berto sucks and can't take a punch. Shane TKO6. Too bad for Shane, this would have added to his solid resume.
i doubt it would have been an easy fight either way. at this point, mosley cant put punches together like ortiz did. nor can he fight with the sustained aggression ortiz did
Shane doesn't fight anything like Ortiz. Not to mention Shane looked like garbage against C level opposition in his last fight.
This... not to mention that even if they fought when scheduled (Dec '09, and then pushed back to Jan '10), it still would've been a year or so in between fights for Shane. There's also the part where Shane hasn't looked like anything world-class ever since the Margarito fight - with THAT fight being his one stellar showing in a span of more than three years. In fact, I'll venture to say that if Shane didn't stop Berto early, then it'd be a very long (and sloppy) night.
Berto would definately be a hard fight for Shane. Its not like Shane defence is that good. Apart from Margarito I can't think of one legit guy Shane dominated. To be honest i would pick Andre over Shane if they had to fight.
You might be right. I kind of forget, but Shane IS a finisher, no fucking doubt about it. Even if he can sometimes be passive in the ring etc, when he has his man hurt he goes all out. Ortiz is a strange one. His offense is excellent. Overall, better than Mosley, albeit with less power. He's quick, accurate, a lot of energy, pretty good punch variety, good footwork etc. But he's not a finisher. He couldn't finish Maidana, Peterson, OR Berto, and really he should have stopped all 3 of them.
well, there's a fight to be made once mosley loses to pacquiao. i doubt dibella would put berto vs. mosley so soon after a loss though.
Shane would've been an even bigger sucker than Oriz for those right-hand counters. And at this stage, I'm not sure he's faster than Ortiz. Still, my pick then and now was for Mosley to have won by knock-out. Judging from the Ortiz fight, he might have had some rough spots, and may even have been hurt a few times, requiring him to hold on and/or take some rounds off. But when you consider how wilted Berto became once Ortiz began going to the body, it's easy to imagine Mosley scoring a late round stoppage, having sapped Berto's strength with a more consistent and devastating body attack than Oriz mounted. I think Mosley too, with his greater experience, would've realized the benefits of using angles more than Ortiz did to get out from in front of Berto and exploit better Berto's lack of fundamental boxing skills.
I think Shane would've stopped him. I agree that if it's not early, it could be a real sloppy and ugly affair, with lots of holding. Shane has shown a tendency to get frustrated and disorganized when things aren't going that well, and not knowing what tactical adjustments to make. However, this is Berto we're talking about, now a Floyd or Winky. With Berto's own poor defense, the way he squares himself up too often, and less than stellar chin, I think Shane would get to Berto in the mid-rounds and stop him.
DiBella no longer has a "real"commodity in Berto. Look for him to sign another promising welterweight, one whose credibility he will build by way of a victory over the ever over-rated Berto (you know, the guy who lost to Collazo and whose competition was otherwise confined to junior welterweights). The sad fact is is that given Berto's resume, DiBella's been able to make as mcuch money as he has, featuring berto on HBO a disproportionate number of times , explainable only by DiBella's intimate relationship with both the suits at HBO and Bob Arum. DiBella, sign a good fighter lately? One who can prevail among fair and reasonable match-making? Didn't think so.
I think Mosley would have stopped him because Berto is there to be hit. He's not a slick boxer or anything.
