Fights in which one guy lobbied to anyone who would listen for matchup and ended up getting beaten down.

One example is Sharmba Mitchell in the rematch with Kostya Tszyu. He told everyone the reason he lost the first fight was because of a leg injury. To top if it off he blamed his corner for stopping the fight.

Afterward he talked about Tszyu being 'scared' him. During that time Kostya was inactive and unable to fight because he was recovering from his own injuries. Quite ironic for a fighter to talk about another man's unwillingness to fight when he quit during their battle.

To his credit Mitchell was fighting and beating top contenders during that time and not only running his mouth.

When he finally secured the fight a few years later, Sharmba looked nervous on the way to the ring and seeing his opponent across the ring prepared. It appeared he knew he was going to have to back up all the trashtalk, and prove the first fight's outcome was because of his injury.

The end result was being pummeled even quicker than the first fight.

If his training involved standing around and letting people punch him in the face to build up resistance i suppose it was sucessful.

I must have missed Pavlik calling out Hopkins. This one doesn't fit. Neither guy really called out the other, the fight was made quietly.

Correct. The fight was made moreso because other matchups fell apart.

That's what I was thinking too...

Also, and just because I was watching this earlier today, Michael Watson was absolutely desperate for a second crack at Eubanks.

Tyson was gonna tear Lennox's heart out and eat his children. I guess by that, Mike meant he was going to tenderly wipe blood off of Lewis' cheek.

I don't really think that one fits. Oscar picked Mayorga moreso than the other way around because he could win easy and do so against a name. On top of it Mayorga talked the same way about every other opponent prior to De La Hoya.

Funny thing about that is Sharmba has been lying so long about what happened in the first fight that he seemed to actually start believing that his corner stopped the fight when video clearly shows him saying it.

Mosley - Vargas II - After a close matchup in the first fight ended, Vargas started yapping about he was wearing Shane out, the eye swoll from a headbutt blah blah blah. Video clearly showed it was from a punch, and Vargas got dominated in the rematch punctuated with a no excuse 1 punch KO.

i'm starting to doubt pavlik's excuses given his silence in regard to a rematch with hopkins. then again, pavlik needs to know that sick or not in the first fight, if he were to lose the rematch, his stock would plummit.

and imo, nobody at 160 can take him. pavlik/kessler would be awesome but something tells me pavlik wants a few more gimmes (pay-days) before he puts it on the line again.

DLH didn't lobby, talk shit or anything prior to the match.. it was pretty much a case of the fight being simply being announced one day, then a few months later DLH getting beaten down.

Perhaps the best one. Vargas didn't just wish for it, he REALLY wished for it... for years and years
