Actually, I forgot Steve Holdsworth for Eurosport, that guy was hilarious. He'd usually never get sent to good shows and would end up commentating on some pointless fight card in Portugal or Estonia. You could tell he was utterly disgusted with the standard of fighter he was being paid to commentate on and he had no issue in letting the viewer know that.

Surprised that so many mentionned Lampley. While the guy has a good voice, hes saying way too many stupid things, ans is too biaised and emotional for me to consider him a great announcer. He is better than Cossell, but that is not saying much, since that guy was absolutely putrid and made even Kellerman sounds great. Merchant was pretty good, except that he was sometimes way too negative for no reasons. Worst probably has to be the british fag who seems to be having a seizure and a broom up the ass. I think its watt. Iknow im in the minority, but i think that Sheridan is excellent.

Sheridan is excellent and loves the sport like few others. But, one of those others is Kellerman and he is very solid. Merchant has way too many negatives to be thought of as good overall, but he does have some zingers in his history. Don't miss him at all.

Lampley's negatives aren't resume destroyer's like Merchant's. Lampley calls a good fight, tends to get excited at the right times, and knows how to generate interest. He probably gets mentioned because so many fans tend to be HBO centric and he's HBO. That also means he's involved in a lot of the biggest fights.

Kellerman is horrible because he tries too much. He used to be good when he was doing ESPN but now he has turned into a clown. I especially rebember when during a broadcast, they were talking about a certain commentator letting the action speak for itself (maybe it was when Clancy died), and soon after, during a decent action fight, he did the same. It was so contrived that even the other announcers were annoyed. Not too mention that he has turned into a shameless corporate shill

....................."Ward needs to go to the body"...........:hut:

............."yeah, but back to the body...............":tick:

I always liked when Clancy and Dundee were paired together in the 80s along side Ryan. They were good friends and a lot of chemistry and would feed off eachothèr and joke on eachother. Hard to believe, they were old men even BACK THEN.

Two WORST all time to listen to: Pacheco and Atlas. Good God, if a team were ever assembled around those two, it'd be worse than brain cancer.

Agreed. Fucking awful. One is a self-sympathizer so detached from what is happening in the ring that he might as well not be at the fight, the other is a narcissist, dramatist and bully who invents things that are not there and injects stuff from left-field to form a narrative which he wants.

Bobby Czyz with that pair either side of him.............they would be reinventing the MUTE button to deal with it.

Yeah, Lampley certainly has his faults. Prime example was the Chavez-Taylor fight. He practically ignored everything Chavez was doing and only notices the flashy Taylor combos. Same with the De La Hoya-Tito fight. But his positives easily outweigh his negatives; one hand washes the other.

Cdogg doesn't like Lampley because he says positive things about fighters who have fought after 1980s. Dunphy never did that

Czyz was shit. The fact that he was the best on that Showtime telecast tells you how horrible Steve Albert and Pacheco were. Well, Steve Albert wasnt horrible, I take that back. His saving grace was that he had a great voice for calling fights... just lacked boxing knowledge.

Sheridan is terrible although I will say he did a good job on the Trinidad-Mayorga fight.

Much as I wanna say Sheridan is bad... I just can't.

Everytime I watch Ali-Foreman, I'm glad he was the one calling the fight. He did a legendary job. That ONE FIGHT alone gives him a pass from being considered bad.

Can you picture some fucking clown like Mauro Renalo calling Ali-Foreman? Yeah, I don't wanna picture it either.

Lampley was good up until about ummmmm..... prob like 10-15 years ago. I feel like sometime in the early-to-mid 00s is when he became a very annoying corporate shill.

Having said that, I'll give him this much.... there's NOTHING like the moment before a big fight when you hear... "TALE OF THE TAPE!"

Gets me pumped every single time, no matter how many years go by.

Lampley is a great annoucer (beacause of his voice and witts), but he is not a good boxing announcer. He does a decent job at the latter because of the former, but he lacks the knowledge to be a great boxing announcer.

Yeah he did a good job on Ali- Foreman. "Ali with a sneaky right hand. Another sneaky right hand. This time he works over the shoulder of Foreman to deliver combinations!"

I can watch that moment over and over again.

Aye, he was awesome. Sorely missed.

Absolutely, 100% agREED. I've literally lost count of the amount of times I've been watching a boxing card with UK commentary and wondered what fucking glue the liars in the commentary box have been huffing on as they spew untold lies to the watching public. It's horrendous. Irish is spot on about the new SKY shill as well - he's an absolute abomination.

Marv Albert has never been a great boxing announcer He was decent one in the 80s when he was more in touch with the sport. But even in the 80s he was nowhere as good as a guy like Tompkins, Dunphy, or Tim Ryan.

Now, he's just HORRIBLE. Totally out of touch with the sport and completely disinterested in calling fights.

Marv is the best basketball announcer that ever lived, and it's not even CLOSE. But boxing's never been his strong suit. Steve Albert is better than big bro as a boxing announcer.
