Pernell Whitaker had tremendous footwork also. footwork is really about balance and effective positioning. Guys that can continually place their opponents out of position while being in position to hurt them are teh ones with the best footwork. It doesn't matter how orthodox or unorthodox their movement choices are.
Sly and Ugo are contrarians, especially Ugo. My point isn't that difficult to comprehend. 90% of fighters would get fucked up trying to pull off the things Ali did. I'm actually COMPLEMETING Ali... he's one of the best to ever do it while NOT being a textbook fighter.
I dunno how well Mikey would carry 147. Truth be told, he really doesn't have a welterweight frame. Danny Garcia is a much bigger man, despite not being nearly as good a fighter as Mikey. Still, I think Mikey would box Danny senseless. Danny would only have a puncher's chance.
Leonard-Benitez is a great example of TWO guys with beautiful footwork jousting for positioning all fight long. It's a testament to Leonard's reflexes that the ONE time Will was off balance, Leonard expoilted it with a stiff jab that dropped him.
Can't disagree. Just like Garcia, always in perfect position due to his feet. A great example of BETTER footwork neautralizing a guy with faster feet in Pac.
I'm not as hight as some are on Loma, but he has maybe the best footwork I ever saw. I don't rebember seeing a guy intimidating another just by positioning while barely throwing any punches (only a few slaps_
Lomachenko is top of the list for me. Boxing at the highest level for me is high-octane, dangerous geometry and great footwork is the ability to create the best angles for oneself, more than it is speed etc. There are very few I've seen better at it than Loma. Off the top of my head Floyd, Rigo, Tyson, Pep, Marquez, Walcott, Calzaghe, Hopkins were all excellent with their feet. Pacquiao is a weird one because he was very adept at creating an offset angle for himself and it was incredibly effective, but against somebody who knew how to counter it he couldn't really adapt without putting himself in danger. And as much as I hate the guy, Hatton did indeed have good footwork, it was easily his best asset.
Hatton had good footwork, but for God sake it doesn't belong on all time level. Speaking of British fighters, John Conteh had excellent footwork.
I didn't say an all-time level, but he did have good footwork. Without it he wouldn't have gotten anywhere near a world class level.
Yeah, Hatton knew how to cut the ring and how to create angles. Both footwork skills. Being that Duran is his idol, I'm sure he studied Duran's footwork a lot.
Yeah...Lomachenko is up there as one of the best ever in this category. The guy consistently puts his opponents out of position. Calzaghe was extremely good at this also.
agREED... BALANCE and POSITIONING are the Key Components...The Balance to Generate an Appreciable Level of TORQUE on Your Shots, No Matter Where You Are in the Ring, and the Positioning to Fight Close Range, Mid-Range or the Perimeter, Whenever YOU WANT To... REED
The Coolest Thing about Mikey is he ISN'T Athletic... Nonetheless, his TIMING and ACCURACY Make Up for his Lack of Pure Handspeed and the QUALITY Of his Footwork Enabled Him to Keep Broner Unnerved Most of the Night... Maidana Pressured Broner w/BRAWN, Mikey Pressured him by Cutting Off the Ring... Mikey Also Displayed RIDICULOUS Footwork While Dropping Those Kill Shots on Zlatacinin...Backwards, Forwards, Laterally, You Name it...The Footwork was AS Important as the Power, in Making the KO Happen... It was an ASSHOLE Move in REED's Opinion, but in a GOOD Way... REED Loooooooooooooooooves How Lomachenko Has NO Qualms about Wrecking a Guy MENTALLY, as Well as Physically...If he Can Whip Your Ass AND Completely Demoralize Your Mind and Spirit, w/the Woooooorld Watching, he Won't Only Do it, he'll ENJOY Doing It... REED LOL'ed During the Instance You Mentioned...Lomachenko Straight Up CLOWNED Marriaga... REED
Sorted. Sorted state affairs this post,.. Hatton, like a lot of English athletes,.. had solid achilles tendons,.. that's why those snow white boomers do quite well in sports where they don't belong,.. like long jump - Rutherford,... triple jump - Edwards,... and Hatton / Bisping,.. boxing / UFC,.. now if you'd just wait here, I'll be back with a more thorough and accurate genetical analysis of the particular historical linages responsible for these traits, starting with cluster R1b..
I know it was against Jeff Lacy but the way Calzaghe was constantly turning him by slipping around him and getting behind him was simply genius. Lacy rarely had a target ahead of him to hit.
Eddie Mustafa Muhammed had SUPERB footwork. Look no further than the Marvin Johnson fight for proof. What a goddamn waste of talent he was.
Yes, Coking Joe had great footwork, we get it. It's a big part of why he was able to make his awkward style so effective.
Napoles might be the GOAT in terms of footwork. The guy was poetry in motion. It's funny, because people compare Chocolatito to Arguello, when really their styles are nothing alike. Gonzalez fights a lot more like Napoles.
He's Not a 3-Toed Sloth, but in NO Way Does Mikey's Athleticism Jump OUT @ You... If You were to Rank the Top Fighters in the World, Athletically, Mikey Garcia's Name would NEVER Come Up...It's a TESTAMENT to His Level of SKILL that he's Not Hindered by it in the Least... Mikey's Timing and Footwork Make Up for What he Lacks in Athleticism... REED
