Black Mirror

Ok. What it comes down to is the separate episodes in this series should likely be reviewed separately. Each one is essentially a mini-movie, with perhaps a very minor thread or reference connecting the world together.

Seen two so far:

USS Callister - Liked it a lot. Great setup, Great follow-through, so-so conclusion. 8/10

Arkangel - Didn't like it at all. Good concept, lazy follow-through, problematic and non-nonsensical plot points throughout. Shitty conclusion. 4/10

 

I liked them all. All of them are at least an 8/10. I liked the first one and the last one the most.

 

You've watched precisely none of them.

 

Man, I hated "White Bear".

 

I just didn't like her at all. It was a really shrill performance. She spent like the entire episode just screaming in her confusion. I had a headache from watching it like 20 minutes in. She never calmed the fuck down, and I found the whole reveal just silly and irredeemable.

"Shut Up and Dance" was much more effective to me. The kid from that one is in "The End of the F*cking World", which is pretty damn good.

 

"White Bear" was brilliant, I do get the criticism of her just crying and screaming throughout the whole thing but it makes sense with the story.

"Shut Up and Dance" was great too.

 

LOL, yeah I got it same time you were trying to convince me. Got the free preview when Comcast offered it directly through their cable service maybe a year and a half ago or so, and never cancelled it.

If my cable system didn't pick it up, I would have never bothered with it.

Crocodile - Ahhh, Best thing I can say is great scenery. Shot in Iceland I'm guessing. Can't say I really liked this one either. The conceit I guess is, once you have something to actually lose, you can turn into a mass murderer at the flip of a switch. One thing bothering me about this episode. I feel like the end of this episode (which was ridiculous BTW) was used as sort of an anecdote during one of the past season episodes. Somebody with a better memory then me, please chime in. 6/10


Hang The DJ - Pleasant enough. Not try-hard with a ton of overkill like a lot of the other episodes. Not exactly trying to be a mind-bender like other episodes. Just a simple, easy to digest story, with some actual likable people involved. 7.5/10

 

The Twilight Zone shites over Black Mirror.

 

Shut up Old Man. Plenty of shitty Twilight Zone episodes out there to.

 

Yeah I know.

But Black Mirror just focuses on fickle human-behaviour in relation to 'modern technology & society'.


TTZ had more variety and explored more avenues.

Of course it will, we're in the middle of the Information Age. Not every episode has a focus on technology though.

 

Tales Of The Unexpected > Black Mirror

 

Yeah I do but this just doesn’t interest me as does pretty much nothing these days.

 

Metalhead - Liked this one a lot. Probably seemed really nihilistic and "The Road" like to many, but they kept it very simple and didn't overthink it like they do with a lot of these . Just a simple chase episode, shot nicely with a great sense of perspective of the action. Not a "thinker", but I thought a nicely done action story. 8/10


Black Museum - Probably the most involved "thinker" of the bunch. Intertwined story lines, multiple twists. Can't give too much away. I don't think I liked this one as much as many others. Just a bit too much going on for me. Still a solid episode compared to many of the others. 7.5/10
