To me, Miguel Cotto is the classic case of "very good", although history might remember him as great, ESPECIALLY if he pulls the upset over Martinez. But he's only "very good" in my book.
You Think Saad Muhammad was a BETTER, More ACCOMPLISHED Fighter than Miguel Cotto???.... Hmmmm???... REEDopcorn:
victories + quality of opposition > everything else Saad had an amazing run and Lopez, Conteh and Johnson were miles better than not only Gatti but anyone Gatti fought... Saad is a top 20 Light Heavyweight all-time... Gatti isn;t a top 30 in any division he fought in
I wouldnt say those guys were better than anyone Gatti fought, but certainly better than anyone Gatti defeated ::
Generational: Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali All-Timer: Julio Cesar Chavez, Manny Pacquiao, Marvin Hagler, Floyd Mayweather, Pernell Whitaker, Michael Spinks Great: Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosley, Erik Morales Very Good: Jose Luis Ramirez, Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Miguel Cotto, Edwin Rosario, Matthew Saad Muhammad Good: Zab Judah, Cory Spinks Pretty Good: Amir Khan, Arturo Gatti
Perhaps, but Cotto has Been "Good" to "Very Good" for A LOT Looooooooooooonger than 4 Years...Doesn't that Count for Something???... To Be Clear, REED ISN'T Disagreeing, Necessarily... REED:mj:
I agree. Also much easier than doing an entire list. Also when the list is basically flawless and I disagree with just one, I'll be like really????? Cotto???? a great fighter????? :notallthere:
Generational - Henry Armstrong All-Timer - Ray Leonard Great - Erik Morales Very Good - Vitali Klitschko Good - Mikkel Kessler Pretty Good - Brandon Rios Average - Jesus Soto Karass Below Average - Jason Litzau
EURO List *Disclaimer* - Fighters would Likely Rank a Notch or 2 LOWER on All Inclusive Lists... Generational - Lennox Lewis All-Timer - Joe Calzaghe Great - Prince Naseem Very Good - Ricky Hatton Good - Nigel Benn Pretty Good - Lloyd Honeyghan Average - Paul Ingle Below Average - Billy Hardy REED:shadow:
VIVA Mexico List Generational - JC Superstar All-Timer - Ricardo Lopez, Salvador Sanchez Great - JM Marquez Very Good - Carlos Zarate Good - Jose Luis Castillo Pretty Good - Jorge Paez Average- Chavez Jr. Below Average - Louis Leija REED:shadow:
definitely... but when we get into "mythical matchup" territory, slow and steady doesn't typically win the race, nah'mean???
Marquez is simply a great who happened to have a GREATER fighter's number. That's all. He's in no way, shape, or form as good/great as Chavez. What's Bob Foster considered? Great or ATG? How bout Dwight Qawi?
if you want to put chavez ahead of marquez then its not a big deal to me .but ranking ricardo lopez above marquez is insane.
There's never been a light heavyweight I would bet on against Bob Foster... if he fought the other best guys a dozen times each, he's bound to lose a few, but I wouldn't bet against him... he's an all-timer at that weight, just a devastating fighter Qawi is more in the very good class with Saad
agREED his comp simply does not warrant it... tremendous technician in a terrible division and he was happy to stay there for years and avoid real challenges
I consider Qawi a cut above Saad, and I'd pick him over any version of Saad. A fresher Saad likely gives him a harder fight, but I don't see how Saad could EVER cope with Qawi's defense, handspeed, combos, and physical strength.
active fighters: Generational- Mayweather Jr. ATG- Pacquiao Great- Andre Ward Very Good- Sergio Martinez Good- Canelo Alvarez Pretty Good- Brandon Rios Average- Chris Arreola Below Average- Alfredo Angulo
I don't see it... Saad's resume is a lot stronger... Saad was completely gone when they fought... Qawi was excellent but I can't see how he's on a different level when his comp aside from the wasted Saad himself is basically inferior to Saad's... I could see them on the same level based on what Qawi got done and his obvious talent and excellent performances against the guys he did fight, but I can't really see an argument for placing him above Saad unless you place a lot of stock in their fights and I don't place really anything in them
One of my favorite Hegmanisms... like he knew the fucking guy:: That's right up there with "Steven" for Esteban DeJesus They go way back, those two... Esteban was known to frequent the Myrrh Gloves tourneys of Texas back in the 70s when he was a world champ
JMM vs Chavez at 130 would be an interesting fight. Chavez wasn't exactly fast, and he would be leading with an ATG counterpuncher.
I think it would be interesting as well but not because it would be very close. Marquez doesn't have the power to hurt Chavez and although he's a great counter puncher he needs his feet planted. Too stationary for Chavez.
