I like Lara, and I think he WON the Canelo fight, but he blew that fight for himself by not doing enough, When he boxed Canelo in center ring, the Ginger could do fuck all besides eat left hands. By running, he gave the judges the opportunity to give it to Ginger.
Read through ring magazine the other day and 12 of 14 divisions above flyweight are 'vacant' of a ring champion with the exceptions being tyson fury at heavyweight and saul Alvarez at 'middleweight'. Fucking hell!alm:
Boxing is doing great, never better, there have never been so many good boxers, Fury is excellent, super duper excellent
On the upside there are good 'uncrowned' champs there - golovkin, rigondeaux, Kovalev, lomanchenko (I imagine crawford will be crowned by the time the next edition comes out). And there are plenty interesting match ups to be made at welterwight, heavyweight, too. Far too few of the big fights have been made tho
Oh aye, the UK now has more top 10 ranked fighters than mexico! Nearly twice as many as the rest of the EU combined. at this rate it might challenge the U.S. as number one boxing nation
boxing is FLOURISHING at the moment. great time to be a boxing fan once some of these fights start gettin made. we got superstar/potential superstars like: Roman Gonzalez, Juan Estrada, Naoya Inoue, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Carl Frampton, Oscar Valdez, Leo Santa Cruz, Vasyl Lomachenko, Mikey Garcia, Felix Verdejo, Terrance Crawford, Errol Spence Jr, Julian Williams, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Genady Golovkin, Andre Ward, Sergey Kovalev, solid champions such as: Donnie Nietes, Kazuto Ioka, carlos Cuadras, Marlon Tapales, Shinsuke Yamanaka, Scott Quigg, Lee Selby, Gary Russell Jr, Jesus Cuellar, Francisco Vargas, Sniper Pedraza, Jason Sosa, Jezreel Corrales, Rances Barthelemy, Terry Flanagan, Jorge Linares, Keith Thurman, Kell Brook, Danny Garcia, Demetrius Andrade, Jermall Charlo, Jermell Charlo, Erislandy Lara, Saul Alvarez, Danny Jacobs, Zurdo Ramirez, Chunky Degale, Adonis Stevenson, Still relevant/young contenders: Nonito Donaire, Jonathan Guzman, Chucky Flores, Hugo Ruiz, McWilliams Arroyo, Jojo Diaz, Nicholas Walters, Javier Fortuna, Takashi Uchiyama, Tevin Farmer, Richard Commey, Robert Easter Jr, Denis Shafikov, Viktor Postol, Manny Pacquiao, Felix Diaz, Frankie Gomez, Amir Khan, Jared Hurd, Tony Harrison, Miguel Cotto, Erickson Lubin, Ryoto Murata, Badou Jack, Artur Beterbiev, Joe Smith jr all action warriors: Cesar Juarez, Orlando Salido, Takashi Miura, Lucas Matthysse, Ruslan Provodnikov, Omar Figueroa, Andy Lee, Ievgen Khytrov, Tureano Johnson, Thomas WIlliams Jr.
in an alley, trembling, filthy, ashy, desperately telling someone "maaannn... I will SUCK YO DICK for some Floyd"
Sly is working for bed-ridden Uncle Roger. Roger will tell Sly "See that guy, across the street....go and tell him the best fighters come from the Midwest"........and Sly will do it, sort of like Henry Hill running around with Tuddy making phonecalls for Paulie in Goodfellas.
I don't think the talent pool is as bad as some claim. But the PBC/Showtime vs HBO bullshit has gotten way out of hand. Nowadays, it seems we need all the right stars to align to have a star vs star fight (à la Stevenson vs Kovalev or Garcia vs Thurman even though both are PBC) happen when both are in their prime, when a superstar is involved, you can just about forget it.
lt. hw is a perfect example of it. We have 3 excellent fighters (Stevenson, Ward, Kovalev) and one who may be (Beterbiev). As of now, not one fight between any of them has been made. Ward-Kovalev and (more distantly) Stevenson-Beterbiev are being talked about, and they better happen by the end of this year or early 2017 before some of the luster is taken off. It's even more damning for us boxing fans in Québec since we have Stevenson, Pascal, Alvarev, Beterbiev and Bute (big 168lbers) all fighting in the division yet we never saw any of the matchups apart from Bute-Pascal which seemed like a money grab from Bute team (since it was obvious he was still mentally affected from the Froch beatdown).
GGG's Message Board Go Go Dancers are Spearheading that Movement, as Opposed to Raking their Beloved Over the Coals for Facing Kell Brook Next, OR Demanding that he Move Up to '68... Consider it a Diversion... REED
its a shitty fight for golovkin, Id never say otherwise. that said, who would win if brook fought beefy smith? any brits care to predict that fight at 154 lbs or 160 ?
Exactly. Even if Canelo decision to not fight GGG is disappointing, Golovkin career is a much bigger dissapointment. What an exercice in futility. He makes Adonis resume looks like ray leonard one.
The only problem anybody has is that the middleweight champion doesn't defend his middleweight title. Simple as that
But this is this the lone situation where alphabets losing their meaning is a bad thing. Nobody cares about WBC, I didn't even notice they had stripped him. Canelo has 'the' title. He should publicly announce that he won't compete at middleweight anymore
The only real risk he's taken is fighting an older smaller superstar for a shitload of money and fighting Lara. Trout, punchy Angulo, punchy Kirkland, a badly outsized and old Cotto, and a past prime chinny Jr. welter aren't supposed to be tests for a supposed pound for pounder.
:: Ok. But what is accomplished by that? Will the boxing public benefit greatly from this? What if he lines up a fight with GGG or some other top MW.. Does he need to ask the boxing public's permission to re-enter the division or will this be a self-imposed lifetime ban ?
And the thing about the Floyd fight is that he was basically outclassed and broadly clueless. Ricky Hatton probably gave Floyd more to think about, I don't give a damn what the cards said. If Canelo had been as "small" as Hatton then he too would have been taking the old one way trip to El Suelo.
