I might go watch this one on the weekend since my daughter has been nagging me to take her to watch it, even though I am waiting for critics reviews to find out if it has scenes of sex and nudity (which then will cancel the plans since I will not expose my underage darling to that). Still, with zero reviews out, the film already has a 6.8 rating at IMDb? WTF?

 

Finally....Hollywood comes up with an original idea!

Once again the chick from Kick Ass gets hand picked for a role just because. Isn't Carrie supposed to be kind of nerdy and average looking, and not hot as all fuck? There is no way Chloe Grace Moretz would have been treated like Carrie unless they're going to rewrite the story and say everyone was jealous of how hot she was and this is the reason they are dumping pig's blood on her Versace prom gown. And if that's the case it's petty, very very petty.

She already watched the tv version of Carrie and knows what is all about. Not scary for her. She loves The Walking Dead tv series. How more scary it can be?

The other movie she was handpicked for was Let Me In which was a remake to one of my all time favorite films, Let The Right One In. Just like the Carrie film I think it would have been better to give "real" casting calls. I understand actors have contracts and films to fill slots for but certain films that are more character driven than story driven need a defining person to bring out the character. You don't just fill that slot with a name actor because their contract demands they do another film.

Admittedly it does occasionally work out like Foxx starring in Ray or Patrick Stewart being hand picked for Charles Xavier in X-Men. However in those instances Foxx worked his ass off to get right for that role and Stewart is an underrated and outstanding actor. What's her face ain't bad but she shouldn't be getting roles that don't fit her just because she's the next big thing. If they're going to hand pick her at least hand pick her for the right roles. I got no problem with her being in films like Kick Ass because that's a broad role that doesn't really require much depth or character.

There isn't a chance in hell the new Carrie will come close to the original. Trust me, most of the hard work and effort for this film will go right into the CGI effects, not in the writing where it belongs.

I couldn't go watch 'Carrie' this weekend because I read it has like three inappropriate sexually charged scenes which I didn't want to expose my child to. I also read lots of reviews and they range from 'is good, not great' to 'a by the numbers, scene-by-scene reenactment of the original, not bringing anything new to the well known story'. And no, there isn't that much CGI in this $30 million budget film. It landed on the third spot at the box office with $17 million, way behind 'Gravity' (#1 with $31 million in its third week) and Captain Phillips (#2 with $22 million). "Carrie' s weekend grosses were lower than what the studio was expecting ($30 million opening during a pre-Halloween week with no other horror film to compete with). I think that the problem with this remake was that its director approached the Stephen King story not like a horror story, but as a 'superhero origin where some people get killed in the process'. :say:Somebody should have told this lady that 'Carrie' isn't Jean Grey from X-Men.

 

Yeah, I know she auditioned. She went up against 2 chicks who sucked ass and barely had a realistic shot of beating her. The director wanted her all along, the auditions were just a formality. Also I never said she was bad in Let Me In, I just found her and the film itself underwhelming but then again it was a remake so I already knew that's exactly what it would be.

 

In a rare case for me, I actually thought the re-make was better then the overseas original in this circumstance.

She is a good little actor.............and she is hardly "hot"............or I just don't see it.

She was good in "Hick", that I saw recently, even if the movie itself was pretty trash.

I mean she's no Sissy Spacek, but damn she was nearly 30 when she made the original. I'm kind of glad when they try to use actual kids, for kid roles.

That said, I have no intentions of watching this Carrie, and I was not really a fan of the original either.

 

Saw it and it was garbage as expected.

The film felt like it was being done just to be done. It didn't feel like any effort was put forth in making a quality film. It felt like they were working against the clock and had to rush out a product which is why movies suck so much these days. It's only business, not art. It felt like this was nothing but a bunch of scenes being shown one after the other and not like you're watching a free flowing story. Lots of the same lines were used and the mom telling the story at the end about how she slutted Carrie into existence felt so forced. I also didn't like the way Carrie used her hands to kind of focus her power. I suppose anyone who never saw the original might buy this farce, but as usual it doesn't hold a candle to the original.

 

Accurate review even though I will not call it 'garbage' since it is a watchable remake. Even though Chloe Grace Moretz did a decent job, but she is too 'pretty' to play Carrie. Like lb 4 lb pointed out many lines from the original were repeated here and felt like they were just too lazy to come up even with original lines. The way Carrie paused after stopping her mom's attack and then proceeds to kill her didn't felt right with her character. Here Carrie is a bloodlust monster! 6/10

 

The amount of Hollywood remakes made in the last 10 years has got to be more than in all previous years combined... It's got to be... It seems like there are several every year, many of them of the completely unnecessary, uninteresting variety (like this one)

If anyone tries to remake "The French Connection", I'll bomb that fucking place

I wrote the same thing many people have pointed out before me: that this actress is too pretty to convincingly portray Carrie White who was essentially an ugly girl.
