please. gonzaga wouldnt beat half the fighters mirko has. ko'ing mirko does not make him an elite striker.
The gameplan to beat CroCop is out there for everyone to see. Keep him on the back foot and stay outside of his kicking range. Don't let him plant his feet.
Gonzaga may have a high kick even more deadly than CroCop's. He is a huge guy afterall at 245lbs and 6'3. Young and athletic for his size, very stocky powerfully built. Couture will fight smart and try to outpoint Gonzaga.
Circle away from his left leg, let him strike and go for the takedown and work him on the ground. You know, there was no reason for Herb Dean to stand the fight back up. Gonzaga was cutting and hurting CroCop on the ground with elbows, and CroCop was obviously not gonna get him off. Seems like the couple of years of training Jiu Jitsu with Fabricio Werdum didn't fill in all of CroCop's holes on the ground. What's funny is that Werdum beat Gonzaga's ass.::
You know, you still have to take at least 1 big CroCop kick to carry out that gameplan. Gonzaga took 1 to the ribs when he went for the takedown. The welt was apparent. Probably couldn't feel too good the next day.
When he knocks out as many people as brutally as CroCop has, maaaaaybe you can say that. CroCop's been killing people with the left high kick for a decade. It was a damn good shot, but we have no reason to believe that this might not be a repeat of Williams-Coleman. Not aside from protecting Couture-CroCop. How do you think Mirko felt?
We're talking mixed-martial-arts, and you sound like a WWF commentator. Believe it or not, CroCop's been kicked before. Head kicks are part of the sport.
Not even close, you could see he was off balance throwing it and lost a lot of weight transfer at the end, but, Crocop has a CRYSTAl chin so it didn't mattered. And I was glad the ref made them stand up, Gonzaga wasn't doing much on the ground.
He gave him a few good shot here and there but far too sparse to be outraged at the ref decision to make them stand.
He never stopped working, and he opened CroCop up. In fact, the fight was stood up right after Gonzaga worked CroCop into the fence. Unfortunately, there's an unspoken rule that whenever you have a good standup fighter, you don't leave him on the ground for too long.
I wonder if he ever thinks of just calling it quits? Watching him get KO'd like that was just Yuck! That was a scary ass KO.....I thought he was dead.
Right. So that means anybody who gets KTFO in that fashion where his eyes have rolled into the back of his head before even hitting the ground and his leg twisted a full 180 degrees is not something to be seriously worried about? Regardless of if he's been kicked before, that could've been a serious injury. Our heads aren't designed to be kicked in, Rubio. Same reason we were boxing gloves in the ring. Why do you think headbutts are outlawed? Don't forget the serious injuries that have occured in pro boxing, and it could happen in MMA too. Especially since headkicks are legal therefore increasing the risk of injury.
Come on Azazel. You make it sound like any motherf*cker could just take a kick in the head like that. Why do you think boxers are bawling their eyes out from a headbutt? What do you think it feels like to have somebody's shin smashed into your skull as hard as possible? Especially a trained professional? That's bone on bone, not 12 ounce padded leather on bone. Crystal chin or not, few people would've taken that kick. It was way too damn flush, smashing into the brain. He took it to the skull, not the chin. Wake up!
Oh ok, so that's how it's gonna be eh? Should we do the 'he beat the man who beat the man who beat the man who beat the man............." scenario?
100% agreed. There is no edge. There are excellent fighters in both organizations. But that's a moot point now Z, since it's all now 1 big organization. I can't wait to see Noguira in the octagon.
Dana White believes so. Fedor has a non-exculsive contract with Pride, and the UFC doesn't allow non-exlusive contracts. Dana has said he's going to try to stop Fedor from taking fights with other organizations(BoDog). Although it's possible Fedor could drop his belt and just sign with BoDog. He seems to like it there and the reception he got in his last fight over in Russia was nothing short of incredible. Unless Dana coughs up serious money, Fedor will probably fight the remainder of his career in Bodog. But I see Dana White managing to bring him in. He really does listen to the fans, and he himself said he aims to bring all the best fighters in the world together, particularly mentioning Fedor.
Fedor is starting to avoid real competition. His last 4 opponents were Zulu, Coleman, Hunt nd Lindland. Not exactly the stuff legend are made of. I like him a lot, but it's time he up his competition once again. I'm not sure he still has the desire to do so
Hunt is a tough matchup for anybody on the feet. That was a good win for Fedor. Lindland is alright, he's always game. Fans have been waiting for a Fedor/Josh Barnett fight though and it's too bad it never materialized in Pride. I guess chances right now are bleak for a Fedor/CroCop II. But there are a few good opponents out there for Fedor to take on. My personal list would be Chuck Liddell if Liddell gets by Jackson and decides to go up to heavyweight, Josh Barnett, perhaps the winner of Gonzaga/Couture, and maybe Andrei Arlovski.
You make it seem like the shots he got hit with were no big deal?:dunno: Flush left hook to the jaw from Randleman dropped him, Flush right high kick to the skull from Gonzaga KO'd him. Nobody would withstand those shots except possibly Mark Hunt.
