What do you dudes think of these two lovely Japs?

I like both of them. I've been a fan of Murata since the Olympics, but I've only just discovered Higa. Higa seems to be the better of the two actually, I could see him being at least as good as Inoue.

Really good little pressure fighter - fast and strong with a varied attack, good footwork, decent defence. He has a 100% KO ratio.

I'd love to see him fight Wangek or Inoue.

What if I told you Ryota Murata is Japanese for "Floyd Mayweather"?

    Higa is awesome.

Something about the way he moves, his high guard defense and head movement, his stamina, and his fast and furious attack reminds me a bit of a young Pacquiao. Well, an orthodox Pacquiao who fights on the inside and targets the body a lot :D

You should check out his most recent fight. Busted the guy up and basically finished him with a jab. He can really thump for a little guy.

Definite pacquiao influence on display. You can bet pacquiao and his success has inspired thousands of asian boxers and they are adopting his style as a result.

    Guy's body attack is impressive.

    Let's do this. I haven't played SF5 as yet...but once you're a SF master...you're a SF master.

To some extent that's true, if you've got the SF fundamentals you can generally apply it to any game from SF2 to 3rd Strike to USF4. SF5 is a little different though. Has a different feel, the moves are the same, but the mechanics feel less recognisable and familiar.

And proof of how different it is, some people who were amazing at SF4 aren't great at SF5, and a lot of young, new players have become very good at SF5, and done well at tournaments etc. That's very rare for Street Fighter.

    What characters do you play?

Being in Japan I’ve seen them both fight a couple times and I’ve even mentioned Higa in a past thread.

Diaga Higa - I first saw him on an undercard and thought he looked great. He looked highly skilled and seemed to hit like a Mac truck. I recently saw him defend his belt against Thomas Masson from France and although Diaga won by TKO when Masson retired with what seemed like blurred vision from a possible thumbing, Diaga didn’t look as good.

Don’t get me wrong Diaga was winning pretty big on my card but he somehow looked less skilled than I remembered. Also Diaga was hitting Masson with everything but the kitchen sink but wasn’t able to hurt him until he went to the body and even then Masson still took it and stayed in the fight. Diaga also dropped him once but that Frenchie was one tough SOB.

Ryota Murata - I’m not a fan at all. Dude is average as all fuck and won’t be a champion for long. He has average skill and power and slow hand speed. I saw both his fights against Hassan N’ Dam who was just a terrible boxer and yet managed to win the first fight against Murata. They say Murata was robbed but that first fight was pretty close from what I saw.

The rematch was a joke as Dam was obviously terrified and was bopping all over the ring unbalanced as if he was high or something and I’m pretty sure he was also doing that on a smaller scale in the first fight. In the end Dam retired in the 7th claiming he wasn’t felling well. Murata beat him but it wasn’t like he was facing an actual challenge that night and even then he didn’t impress. Dude sucks.

    So basically, to sum-up:
    Daigo Higa - overrated
    Ryota Murata - shit

Haha, that's pretty harsh on Murata. Can't say I completely disagree, like I said I liked him and rooted for him in the Olympics, but yeah he is slow and basic. I don't think he's as bad as you're suggesting. He has pretty good power and accuracy, and can obviously fight a bit, but I don't think I'd pick him over any other titleholder at 160.

Surprised about your perception of Higa Vs Masson. That was my first time seeing him and thought he looked excellent. Just picked him apart and broke him down, and ended up finishing him with a jab. The guy is legit. I'd pick him to move up in weight and batter Gonzalez all over the place without a doubt.

Well looks like I called it. Murata loses his title to Rob Bryant on a unanimous decision loss. Good riddance ya bum, you can’t duck quality opposition forever.

Unfortunately they didn’t show the fight in Japan since it took place in Vegas. I could have downloaded that stupid DAZN channel and watched on a free trial but then the missus wanted to go to Costco and I was more interested in the Lakers - Rockets game anyway. I’ll probably rewatch it later because I really wanted to see when Murata lost.
