He had some slave torn to shreds by dogs just for the fun of it, he enslaved his wife, treated her like shit exposing her scars, smeared his blood all over her face, etc. But Foxx didnt kill leo. He killed the man that kept his wife AFTER she was set free. Then killed the man that basically brutalized her while she was there.

ALLLL that being said, if you dont see how a slave master is an enemy to a former slave, you are a clown.

He didn't have to be a criminal to be the monster he was. Candie represented 'The Man', the system of rich powerful white racist slavery owners that needed to be shot down the same way Don Johnson represented the Klan and how stupid they racist members are. The point is that Schultz shot him out of anger. It wasn't part of the plan. He blew it and it cost him his life.

What does that mean fool? Again, you dont have to be a criminal to be bad or an enemy. We established this earlier. Slavery was wrong. The point of the movie was a free slave getting revenge on slave owners.

Eventually got to see this movie last night.

There are a lot of excellent performances in this one, obviously Waltz was outstanding, Fox puts in a solid shift, DiCaprio was slightly over the top in a 1 or 2 scenes but another great addition to his cv.

I love the cameo from Bruce Dern that was blast from the past.

I found the opening 30/40 minutes quite slow and some scenes particularity the hooded scene just dragged on and on but overall Django is a great movie

The hooded scene looked like something straight out of family guy. But i still laughed.

Yeah it was strange there were some great lines but for a lot of that scene it felt kinda awkward

It was a pretty good movie but the shoot out was way over the top. Felt like a Robert Rodriguez scene. Lots of talk about Fox, Walz and Leo but i thought Sam Jackson had arguably the best performance.

Thought it was mediocre. I agree DiCaprio's performance was good, Samuel Jackson's performance was the best though by far. Jamie Foxx sucked balls. Shootout was over the top & stupid. Little bit too much "white saviorism" too.

I thought this movie was appalling. In very bad taste. Gratuitous and unnecessary in many aspects.

As usual, top notch acting and some intelligent script/dialogue and excellent filming made the movie good on many other levels. But overall i thought this was pretty poor. Don't think I would ever watch it again.

Is it just me just me or did Waltz basically play the same character he played in "Inglorious Basterds" some multi-lingual, over the top polite, correct and well spoken guy with a strong german accent with the only difference him being a good guy this time?

I mean I love the guy and all but is this rave about the performance really warranted a second time?

Ya pretty much. Good call. Let's hope he doesn't turn out to be the next Al Pacino. Great one dimensional actor.

Ya to me it was between Jackson and Dicaprio
Waltz was good but again just like Royness pointed out he played the same guy as before
Jamie Foxx was ok. Not good not bad just ok.

I dont think it was the same at all. Other than the accent, they had two totally different personalities. This is like saying Foxx played the same character he played in Ray.

I guess there are some similarities in both characters, lets give me him a pass on this. Two outstanding performances.

He kinda came off like the same clever, calculated, harmless on the outside but deadly on the inside

He was knowns as the Jew Hunter. Everyone knew he was evil and ruthless. the Django role was a nice guy who was disturbed by dogs killing a man.

I said one was evil one was good, yet they ACTED similar... clever calculated wolf in a sheep's costume kinda guy. Boss' assesment nails it. Saying it's the same as saying Ray vs. Django would be a similar comparison is outrageous lol... there were NO similarities in the acting between the two - you tell me the same goes for Waltz' roles???

Yeah it wasnt the same. The Jew Hunter was not a wolfe in sheep's clothing. He wore a nazi outfit and everyone knew him as a killer. The Django character was an all around nice guy who only killed bad guys. And he was so sensitive to innocent people being killed, the mere vision of it fucked him up for the rest of his life. Were they both clever? Sure. Did they talk in a deep German accent? Sure.

Was ray and Django both smart talking bad asses that didnt take no shit? Sure. Did they both talk in a deep southern accent? Sure.
