Anybody watching this show? Supposed to be one of the top viewed shows on tv and for good reason. I'm loving it and highly suggest it for drama fans and it helps if you also like R&B & hip hop music. I didn't think they'd be able to match the first season but they wound up surpassing it. I'm not big on tv shows, be it series or reality and this is one of the few I am a fan of.
That's accurate. It's a horrible fuckin show, which is only appealing because it depicts blacks rapping, cooning, and being closed fags. Power is MUCH MUCH better if you're looking for a show "like" that.
I saw the first season. I liked it. I didnt think it's an exploitation like you feel. And the music was good.
It's definitely exploitation. Why does the number 1 rated black show have to center around a rap label that was funded on DRUG MONEY and a bitch named "Cookie" for Christ sake? God forbid we see a black show that has nothing to do with Hip Hop or drug dealing.
You have to understand this about Empire - it's a Fox show. Ain't no way in Hell Fox is gonna air a black show that depicts black people in a positive, non-stereotypical light.
That is what Lee Daniels wrote. No different than the movie Godfather trying to be legit. It doesnt matter the circumstances. The father and mother are suppose to be shit. Their kids have to rise above it. Dont Forget, Fox also had Martin, Living Single & NY Undercover. Martin was a bafoon, but living single and NY undercover were about positive black characters with good jobs and good educations.
Fox also had Roc, Moesha, Sister Sister, & The Jamie Foxx Show. All about upstanding members societies. Roc was one of the best characters on TV.
Well it's even better I think so you should check it out. Its not that gay. One of the main characters is gay but it rarely effects the show in uncomfortable ways. Every now and then their is a gay scene usually just kissing and no more then you'll see in a season of Game of Thrones and other tv series these days, so it's not going to ruin the series and you should really check it out. And no Anthony I think season one actually had more gay stuff then this season did. I could be wrong as my memory isn't the greatest but I'm pretty sure it was less.
I didn't see any stereotyping. I mean it's a black show about a black record company so if you're going to get mad that one of the black characters happens to rap you may as well get mad about an NBA show having black actors who play basketball. Also many black artists and execs like Master P started record companies or rap careers from drug money so maybe he kind of based some of it from that. Without some of those so called stereotypes you'd have a pretty boring show. This isn't meant to be like Dallas where we watch the ins and outs of a typical boring company. This company came from the streets and has all the blood and ghettoness that surrounds that. Maybe it's stereotyping maybe not, but either way it's a damn entertaining show.
