which one was the Fight of the Year?
who was the Fighter of The Year?

I have short term memory and honestly did not watched that many fights on 2014, but of the few I watched these are my picks:

    Fight of The Year:

Orlando Siri Salido vs Terdsak Kokietgym

This was like a real life Rocky movie: both fighters went down several times in a non-stop action packed brawl. At the end it was 34 year old Salido emerging victorious with an 11 round TKO. This fight has great replay value.

    Fighter of The Year:

    Miguel Angel Cotto

Cotto fought only once on 2014, but what a performance he delivered! The 34 year old veteran moved up in weight to challenge THE middleweight champion Sergio Maravilla Martinez. All experts though Cotto will be murdered and gave him close to zero chance to win. Of course after he easily manhandled Martinez all same experts came with a plethora of excuses: Sergio was rusty due to inactivity, he was knee crippled, he aged badly, he hurt his knee in round one and couldn't use his legs. Whatever. The truth is Martinez himself did not offered any excuse except that he never recovered from the first punch that put him down in round one and gave props to Cotto. Miguel delivered a career best performance enroute to win his fourth title in four different weight divisions beating a highly regarded top 5 P4P boxer.

My personal favourite fight of the year - Crawford-Gamboa.

Fighter of the year - Terence Crawford, but a big shout out to GGG.

And many fightbeaters picked Martinez to win.

I honestly think Crawford ' s win over gamboa is hugely over-blown.

Gamboa was so much smaller than him. And he still managed to hurt Crawford badly.

Crawford put some real hurt on him and the final uppercut was nice. But again. It looked like a welterweight against a featherweight. It was embarrassing in a way.

    Gamboa's a GOOD Fighter, Doub...

Yes, he was Considerably SMALLER, but that's his Own Fault for Moving Up to '35...Crawford SHOULDN'T Be Penalized for that, Especially Considering that was Almost a Pick-Em' Fight, Going In...

Gamboa Certainly DIDN'T Hurt his Reputation by Losing, in REED's Opinion...

You have to penalise someone for beating a smaller fighter, even if they didn't force them to move up.

If Kovalev moved up to heavyweight, there's only so much credit you could give wald pussy for beating him, ie none.

Similar story with Crawford. Size was a huge factor in that fight, Little Yuriorkis looked 2 divisions smaller and his shots did not have the effect they would have done if they were the same size. Crawford realised he could just walk him down, and there's no way he would have been able to do that if Gamboa was a natural lightweight.

Crawford is good, but I don't find any of those 3 wins that impressive.

Gamboa's Best Suited for 130, in REED's Opinion...A Mere 5 Pounds South of Where he and Crawford Fought...

Gamboa Most Certainly HURT Crawford More than 1nce & was OUTCLASSING Him Early Doors...@ NO Point Did Crawford Boldly Wade Into Gamboa, Either...Yes, Crawford was Aggressive, but @ No Point was he DISMISSIVE of Gamboa's Ability to Hurt Him...

Who had a BETTER 2014 than Crawford???...

I don't think Gamboa is anything more than a featherweight. That's his best weight, and that's the heaviest his little frame should be.

He literally looked 2 divisions smaller than Crawford, at least. Given how the fight played out, it's crazy not to think size played a big part.

The fact that he hurt him at all shows what his shots would have done if they were the same size.

Not sure who should be fighter of the year tbh.

Spot on. It's ridiculous how a lot of persons refuse to acknowledge this.

Still, I think that Crawford is fighter of the year, but the comp is pretty weak this year.

yep, it's ridiculous. I rebember also that last year, sky (british tv) and the ring proclaimed him the fighter of the year, and he had a pretty shitty year, beating a string of c+ level guy.

Which was even more ridiculous is that fighter like Stevenson (dawson, Cloud, Bellew), Mayweather (Alvarez and Guerrero) or rigondon (donaire, Agebko)had tremendous year. At least, this year, no one had an exceptional year, so choosing him is a bit more comprehensible (but still completely ridiculous)

agree with your fight of the year pick.Terksak-Salido was simply insane even if it's largely forgotten (and you could penalized it a bit for being a tad one sided). But you can't give fighter of the year to Cotto imo. Yes he has the best win of 2014, but only one fight is simply not enough. Would probably go reluctantly with Pacquiao with Crawford and Walker both close runner up even though none really deserves the title (but the year has been really weak in this category).

Bellew irritates the hell out of me. Biggest mouth in boxing. Talks so much shit. I will not watch him fight ever again. If he comes on tv I'll switch the channel over. He's a massive bellend.

Actually I think it is Pacquiao, I forgot about him. He schooled 2 world class undefeated fighters in 1 sided fashion. And unlike Crawford - Gamboa, they didn't look 3 weight divisions smaller.

    Pacquiao, Inoue, then Crawford.

I'll take mws's 3, but put Inoue in front: Inoue, Pacquiao, then Crawford. Walters could fit in there, too. I'd also put Floyd, Wlad, Kovalev, and maybe 30 others in front of a guy who beat someone so clearly on the downside and who only fought once. It's insulting.
