pretty mediocre fight action wise. somewhat interesting tactically for the first half of the bout but style wise these two dont make for a great match. thurman was a bit more aggressive than i anticipated early on but once he established that he could hurt garcia he went into the type of game plan i expected and used his legs to win. i also agree with reed. neither of these two impressed me
agREED... Spence Walks Thurman Down, Behind a HIGH and TIGHT Guard, PUNISHES him via Infighting, Eventually Stopping Him Late...The Spence-Brook Recipe Will Be Similar, but it'll Be HARDER for Spence to Work his Way Inside and a PRICIER Toll to Pay... Spence-Thurman's an 80-20 Fight, Whereas Spence-Brook is 60-40, 65-35... REED:hammert:
Brook would cheat and pull a Canelo against Spence by weighing in 20+ pounds on the night of the fight
I'm always shocked when a boxing fan calls weighing more than your opponent at fight time "cheating." :laugh101:
Just watched it and while Thurman clearly deserved it, he wasn't overly impressive to me. He ran a bit much for my taste, especially considering that Garcia's punches didn't appear to bother him to the naked eye. The rounds I gave Garcia all came late when Thurman was basically not doing anything but it was a forgone conclusion. I wouldn't be surprised if a rematch occurs in all honesty. Neither guy seems crazy about facing either Spence or Brook and because the scorecards were "close," plus both being Al Haymon guys, it's all in house anyway.
Porter-Brook is a WBC Eliminator... REED has NO Doubt Thurman Will Fight the Winner (Porter) Next... REED:hammert:
I think even diehard boxing fans will admit that both Trinidad and Oscar, the last pair of undefeated welterweight unifiers, were streets ahead of both of last nights guys.
No Doubt... All Night Looooooooong, That's the Fight that Kept Popping Up in REED's Mind, Juxtaposing the Thurman-Garcia Pre-Fight Hype w/What ACTUALLY Transpired, 1nce the Opening Bell Rang... A Similarly DISAPPOINTING Result, yet, As You Stated, DeLa-Trinidad was Waged @ a HIGHER Level, in Terms of Skillset and Talent...Oscar Dela Hoya and Felix Trinidad were Both BETTER Fighters than Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia... REED:hammert:
He WILL, but REED Can Easily See Thurman Taking a RE w/Porter 1st...Or Taking Berto Next, if he Manages to Upset Porter... Thurman Won't Face the Spence-Brook Winner Until LATE 2017, Early 2018, in REED's Opinion... REED:hammert:
Oscar and Tito were much better than these 2 guys, but their unification was much more disapointing than yesterday fight (i'm not even sure I would call yesterday fight disapointing to be honest. Was a decent scrap)
That's Fair... More HURTFUL Punches were Landed btwn Thurman-Garcia, than DeLa-Trinidad, for Sure...But REED Was MORE Impressed w/DeLa's Level of "Boxing", than he was Thurman's, and Trinidad Posed MUCH More of a Constant Threat to DeLa, than Garcia Did to Thurman... REED Can Recall Being STUNNED @ How EASILY DeLa was OutPointing Tito, Until the Final 1/3rd of the Bout...The Lack of ACTION in DeLa-Tito was Disappointing, but the VERDICT is What Leaves the SOUR Taste in Boxing Fans Mouths, to this Very Day... If Garcia had Gotten the Nod Last Night (and SHAME on the Judge that Had him WINNING!), REED Thinks the Fight Itself Would've RIVALED DeLa-Trinidad, in Terms of Disappointment... REED:hammert:
Tito-DLH was more disappointing by a mile. There wasn't a soul on Earth who expected that fight to go down like it did... EVERYBODY expected a war. Thurman-Garcia wasn't a particularly good fight, but there's been far worse.
Didn't watch the fight....don't really have a desire to watch it.....but GOOD that Thurman WON..it's better for boxing. He is action fighter(mostly)..he talks a lot of smack....and I think REED said somewhere...THURMAN behaves like he REALLY wants IT...he wants to be GREAT...he wants to fight the BIG NAMES....he is limited as FUCK...but at least he goes to the max with the skills/abilities he has....unlike certain clown ass bitch from Ohio...
Everybody knows when you see One Time it's Run Time!!!! Not really impressed by either guy. I would've been happy to see Garcia get a gift draw with the way Thurman ran the last few rounds.
No, Garcia has gotten more than enough gifts. He didn't need another one. This would have been his biggest gift by far. You can make a case that he squeezed by Herrera and Peterson by the skin of his teeth. But there's NO argument for him winning last night. It woulda been a total robbery.
I haven't watched the fight since it happened (and I won't re-watch it, it was a horrible fight) but from what I remember it coulda gone either way. The Peterson fight I do remember, and I thought Garcia lost that fight. Garcia has arguably 4 losses. Remember, a lot of people felt he didn't deserve the decision against Ashley Theopane.
Neither guy impressed me, but Garcia impressed me a lot less. I expected him to make better adjustments than he did. I also underestimated just how fuckin sloooowwwwwwwwww he is, of both hand and foot. Especially slow of foot. You give Garcia ANY type of movement and angles, and the dude is literally useless.
Agreed. Thurman is not the reincarnation of SRL, but he has a tricky style that could trouble boxers much better than him. Garcia is pretty easy to read, and he's not good enough to adapt against the elite.
It was MILDLY Entertaining In the Moment...VERY Tense Atmosphere... But Knowing the Result AHEAD of Time, There's Little to NO Rewatchability...The HIGHLIGHT of the Fight was Round 1... REED:hammert:
