And I also backed it up with Vitali by UD.

That said, Solis is the fastest fighter that Vitali has faced in years, and quite possibly in his career. Vitali is also 39 years old and while dominant throughout his career and is showing signs of slowing down.

The wild card is what kind of shape he's in. Reports are coming out that he won't be a total fat fuck this weekend, but I'll believe it when I see the weigh-in, or pictures of it.

Is slimming down and being in good physical shape enough for Solis to turn the trick? Probably not. But at his best, he poses a different set of problems than what Vitali has faced in quite some time.

That's why I give Solis a shot at being competitive.

It has nothing - let me say this loud and clear so you don't ever again repeat such nonsense - NOTHING AT ALL to do with winning a Gold medal. I've never in my life made a prediction based solely on someone's amateurs credentials.

I think you and I see this pretty similarly, Jake. You're just going out on a limb with a pick.

    I guess.

BTW - my post was in reply to El Terrible's, not yours. I'm sure you figured that out, but just wanted to clarify.

I don't really think much of him either, especially at that weight. I just leave the door open to a surprise more than I usually do in a Klit fight.

I see the case for a KO, but a decision? I guess if he drops Vitali five times Solis could win a decision that way, but I don´t see a case, where he lands more or better punches for a sustained period of time. Vitali´s size will be a huge problem for Solis. He might land that sneaky powerful left hand and win by KO, but a decision. No way.

I guess he has a better chance in this fight than he would against Wladimir who would just let him die at the end of his jab. Vitali is a bit more willing to engage and relies on his reflexes more. If Vitali fights controlled and maintains distance Solis won´t touch him. After six or seven rounds he´ll open up on an exhausted Solis or it will look like the Kevin Johnson fight.

You keep posting as if I'm picking Solis to win. I'm not - in either of my two picks.

And I'm sure his best (and perhaps only) chance at an upset is to win by knockout - but I'm not picking that, either, Unless it's Lennox Lewis in the other corner (barring today's version, of course) or there's a guarantee that Vitali gets injured at some point during the bout, it's foolish to ever pick that he gets stopped.

I honestly don't get how people say I'm going out on a limb with my pick, when I'm picking the odds-on favorite to win. Am I nuts for thinking that it has a chance of being a close fight? Maybe. But last time I checked, there's no points spread in boxing.

If this were a bet placed with a bookie, I'd win back cash whether Vitali wins by close decision, wide decision or knocks him out with the first punch he throws.

I´m just so insulted by the idea that Solis of all people will be the first man to make it close on the scorecards.

Ah we´ll see on Saturday. It´s an interesting fight and at some point somebody must give the Klitschkos some trouble. Has there been any since Peter dropped Wlad in 2005?

Yup. That's all I'm really saying. And yeah, I think Wlad-Peter I was the last close fight involving either Klitschko.

It is pretty amazing about Vitali, the only competitive fight he's ever been in was against Lennox Lewis (unless you want to count Herbie Hide and the 1-0 lead he held before getting drilled). Considering his level of comp is a lot better than most give credit for, it's saying a lot.

I´m sure that counts. To this day Roy Jones fans tell me, that he was schooling Tarver in the rematch.

Don't understimate dem 1 round schoolings, you feel me?

By the way Jakenhausen and Huttenhausen, what fight would you say is a good example of an on form Solis, the one you're imagining is capable of giving Vitali a fight?

Wait, what? What did you say about his level of comp? His best win is Corrie Sanders.

OK, relatively speaking... he's been as dominant as he's been while facing a decent amount of Top 10 opposition. Prior to last year, he faced four straight legit Top 10 heavyweights (even if none were particularly spectacular) and lost no more than three rounds among those fights.

More impressive is that the fact that his fights go rounds. It's not like he scores a bunch of quick hits.

Well he's not exactly sculpted, but Solis weighed in at 246, which I believe is his lightest in about three years. He's still only a pound lighter than Vitali, but at least looks like he actually trained for this fight.

Close decision, here we come

It is actually almost a career low.

He was 246.75 against Salif. 246.9 against Vitali.

But he was 247, when he couldn´t get shit done against Long, but yes that certainly doesn´t hurt your close decision prediction, that he actually trained and hopefully not only with Lasix.

If he doesn't bleed through the nose during the fight then he may have been taking Lasix.

Solis seemed eager to get out of Vitali's presence at the final presser and at the weigh in. Will be interesting now to see how he squares up tomorrow. I don't trust or like Oner, he seemed very eager about it all.
