Nah. My fault. Giving far too much oxygen to a fight that happened far too late and was a spectacular disappointment.

I don't see how any of those four apply with the exception of Sanders

Well, i don't think spinks ever looked better than when he outboxed mayorga who had just got done neating forrest twice.

And forrest - the dominance he showed against mosley was never really on display again i don't think.

As for etienne, you may not recall, but after his defeat of brewster there was some serious hype surrounding him and on the strength of that performance he landed several more dates.

How do these examples not qualify?

True. Maybe it was just too obvious. Almost like the thread was "other than Buster Douglas ..."

You would expect Spinks, Forrest and Ettiene to win those fights again if they happened. Forrest beat Mosley in the re. They weren't 'special nights' where they over-achieved.

That's not what the first post is asking. It's asking where guys looked better than they ever had before. I think the examples fit.

I don't know about the first part. And forrest did a lot worse in the rematch. Either way, in each case, it was the fighter's best performance up to that point in their career, and it was never repeated. Seems special to me.

Believe it or not I have yet to see this fight. I heard Forrest dominated him. From what I recall of PBF-Baldy: Floyd won every minute of every round. I'm assuming from what you say that Forrest won every second?

Cotto vs Martinez as a puncher. Both guys had been around for ages and there was no reason to expect cotto could do that to him

Both Joshua and Klitschko in that fight, probably Wlad a bit more as he was thought less of.

Nobody would have thought he'd get cut and dropped, then win the rest of the round he got dropped in and return the favour in the very next round and still be there in the 11th.

And I thought Joshua would stay down once he got put down.

They both found a little extra that night.

Except his one leg. Cotto had a lot of better performances against solid guys in his prime.
