I gotta disagree. Ortiz was a class above Buchanan. We're talking about a top 10 all time lightweight.

Re-watch that fight. Even the CORPSE of Ortiz was giving Buchanan a tough fight. Prime Ortiz definitely outclasses him.

I think McGuigan gives prime Pedroza a good tussle... Agree Pedroza wins, though... McGuigan could definitely fight... He proved it in spades against Taylor and LaPorte

Unless Naz magically learns technique he never had, MAB still beats him

There was a VERY CLEAR drop in speed/reflexes between the Hamed that fought Tom Johnson, and the Hamed that fought Barrera.

It's my opinion that the Tom Johnson version of Hamed would eventually catch Barrera with something he never sees.

Buchanan is easily a top 20 lightweight himself... Ortiz quit on his stool because he was getting beat up in that fight... It wasn't a close fight... A lot of the same problems that Laguna caused for Ortiz, Buchanan brings to the table... Great legs, great jab, fast hands... Buchanan had a better offensive arsenal than Laguna and he was stronger and tougher... No way Ortiz outclasses him... I'd pick him to win but it's no easy fight

Whitaker vs DLH: Whitaker still whupped fishnets, but if it was early 90s Whitaker the fight woulda been so lopsided that there's no way they coulda robbed him.

There's also a massive increase in quality from Johnson to Barrera

It was Laguna's handspeed that was so problematic for Ortiz. Laguna was one of the fastest lightweights that ever lived.

Buchanan doesn't have much of speed edge on Ortiz, if any.

He gives him a GOOD fight, but Ortiz was a better technician with better tools.

The Joe Brown fight alone is a clinic Ken could never duplicate.

But what does that really mean?

Lennox Lewis was a lot better than Pinklon Thomas, but that doesn't mean that the Tyson who fought Pinklon Thomas wouldn't break his foot off in Lewis' ass.

    Tszyu-Chavez is another one.

Prime Chavez grinds Tszyu down and takes his heart.

Rosendo Alvarez vs Jorge Arce. Alvarez was a shit midget shit talker when they actually fought and Arce was way bigger. But when they were both at Jr. Fly I think Alvarez would've made it too rough a fight for the gay little cowboy.

Buchanan was fast as hell, man and the guy never gassed

The Joe Brown thing is a styles thing, too, though... Ortiz's style combined with Brown being a bit long in the tooth made it an easy whitewash... That Joe Brown would've been more competitive with Buchanan but I don't think that tells us much about an Ortiz/Buchanan fight... AGAIN, I think ortiz wins but I don't see him outclassing Buchanan

Yeah I agree with that. Naz would have eventually clipped him, especially the young Barrera who fought very aggressively.

Trinidad was still a heavy puncher but he had lost his explosiveness by the time he fought Wright. I don't see Wright picking a prime Tito off like he did and he's not mobile enough to beat him any other way.

Quartey deserved to win but their were close rounds. I think he stops Forrest or really kicks the shit out of him in his prime.

I don't think very highly of Forrest. I would agree that the mid 90s Quartey beats the Hell outta him.

    I'll add Martinez-Cotto.

Circa 2010 Martinez who had actually had 2 good legs and all his reflexes would have laid an ass whuppin on Cotto.

Mosley at 147 of the late 90s/early 00s beats Cotto. Due to Mosley's power-boxing style and Cotto's heavy hands, I think Mosley take his share of punishment, but dish out a lot more. Sort of like against Pacquiao, Cotto wins a couple rounds but is basically overwhelmed and stopped late

What do you guys think of Marquez-Barrera? Marquez had more left in the tank when they fought. He won a competitive but clear decision IMO, 8-4. Not sure how it would go if Barrera was a few years younger.

Faded Mosley of 07 was on the verge of wearing Cotto out. It's not crazy to call that fight a draw.

Yeah, prime Mosley whups Cotto's ass.

I agree with Cdogg on this one.

Fast hands, reflexes or not Handfed would still have the same defensive liabilities. MAB's countering and jab would accomplish the same thing against any version of Handfed...it made him think and pause before firing. That's all he needed.

Handfed clipped MAB a couple times and MAB barely blinked.

Prime or not, Fury would always beat Wlad. Even if he was in his prime He would still get spooked by fury size, speed snd antics, and lose a wide decision
