Give it ten years time or less REED...

You'll get Floyd at basement prices and will feature him on one of your undercards.

For the record, Floyd-Marquez is probably my least favourite fight ever. I still smell dog shit everywhere I go from the taste that cynical charade left in my mouth.

I WAS a fan at one time.

He lost me soon after he went to Welterweight, declared himself the greatest Lb for Lb of all time, and then declined to fight any of the considered dangerous threats in the division over the next five years.

............and I actually had no problem with the Baldomir fight when he took it. It was the ensuing reign and accompanying talk of all-time greatness that wore me down.

Floyd is obviously a great fighter, when people bitch about Floyd it has nothing to do with his talent, it has everything to do with fans wanting more out of a so called great fighter.

I'm sorry to say it, but I expect more from a great fighter than I am getting from Floyd. he basically squandered his prime years with BS retirements and cherry picked fights. I will never dispute the fact that he had a great body of work up to 135. After that, I have a problem.

It's not just black and white Sly and nobody is going to say Floyd is not a very skilled fighter. He is.

Exactly. If you are going to say this stuff, you better back it up. I don't know why it hurts Floyd fans so much to admit his level of opposition from 140 up dropped off considerably.

not sure if i like the guy or not, but he's certainly amusing to watch when he's in front of camera. at least he has more interesting things to say than pacquiao. as a fighter, he's a great great fighter, one of the best i've ever seen. as long he continues to fight, i'll watch.

I feel the exact same way (which will be a surprise to most). The dude annoys me. But as you said in the opening sentence:

"When the Bell RINGS & the Fight STARTS, Destruction and Mayhem is Definitely a FAN of Floyd Mayweather"

Duran was a world champion at 154. One division. There were no bullshit fake weight agreements and neither was the whole thing a cheap attempt to try and belittle a rival (Pac) by taking an opponent he struggled with 3/4 weights lower, then cheap shotting him by with EXTRA weight disadvantages.

The whole thing was dishonest, cheap, cynical, manipulative HUSTLING bullshit and was a one fight oil painting of what's been Floyd's attitude to the sport/fans for quite a long time. It was to impress casual fans & media that didn't know any better with how easily Floyd could beat a guy who arguably beat Pac. That Marquez had to be the fall guy in Floyd's stinky PR exercise just made it stinkier.

A warm-up for a fight that didn't happen. You're not seeing the absurdity here. Maybe you've put your finger on one of the reasons PBF keeps retiring. If he retires prior to every fight, then all his fights can be warm-ups. No?

Duran held 160 pretty decently. Marquez weighed 142 in the ring and looked flabby.

As Faaaaaaaar as REED's Concerned, this is Floyd's FINAL "Strike"...No More Tuneups, No More Comebacks, No More Retirements...

Beat Victor Ortiz THEN FIGHT MANNY PACQUIAO (Finally) Or Fuck Off...REED ALREADY Feels "Hoodwinked, Bamboozled, Led Astray, Run Amok...." by the Mere IDEA of Not 1, but 2 "Comeback" Fights as he 'Readies' Himself for Pacquiao...REED WON'T Fall for the Banana-In-The-Tailpipe a 3rd Time....

I hate the poll choices, they are absurd

    here's my take:

Hate the guy, he's an asshole of immense proportions... sometimes, I love wtaching him fight, other times I do not

My totally objective view on him is this:

He's one of the 4 or 5 best Junior Lightweights of all time

He was outstanding, if not quite as remarkable, at 135

On the basis of that portion of his career all by itself, he is a legit REAL hall of famer, a truly great fighter

After 135, it gets less clear-cut... there are some outstanding wins in there and there are some wins that are "name" wins only... there is absolute, 100% cherry-picking as well... some of what he did there enhances the legacy, some of it adds nothing to it and merely makes him a boxing charlatan

but from 130-135, he is in there with the best of the best... Duran, Armstrong, Whitaker, Chavez, Arguello, Williams, Tony Canzoneri etc. He is so good, he is in THAT group of guys, true legends

You hate the choices but your answer is that he's a proven ATG talent.

So vote that way and shut the fuck up!

He was a great super featherweight. But to go without qualifying that by making it clear his claims to be greater than Ray Robinson as a welterweight are completely fraudulent and he hasn't proven shit there is totally unsatisfactory. Just like saying 'he's a fraud' without making it clear he was one of the best Lightweight fighters ever would be.

P4P greatness. Not as a Welterweight per se. What had Robinson achieved at 175lbs? Is he criticized for his non-achievement there? No. Yet 147lb to 175lbs is the same as 130 to 154lbs proportionately.

Since the Castillo fights Mayweather can be better described by the option #2...he has been very opportunistic picking and choosing...

:laugh11:That performance against Oscar tells you all you need to know. The chickensh*t ran from a shot inactive Oscar and barely eeked out a decision. Genius my ass! He beats up on shot fighters and bums.

Robinson was wayy past his prime at 175....while Mayweather was in his prime at 147 w/ Cotto, Williams, Margarito, Clottey, and Cintron...and somehow never got around to fighting them....

Only in boxing where you can handpick all your own f*cking opponents and take limited risks. And boxing fans still wonder why the sport is laughed at.
And then when a decent fight (on paper) finally comes along, after 5-6 months of hype, it turns into a snoozer piece of sh*t where one motherf*cker only came for a paycheque (Haye) which again puts the sport further down the crapper.

The way the poll options are worded is crap but that's already been addressed.

One simple way to consider yourself a fan of a fighter is if you root for them. It's been a while before i could consider myself cheering for Mayweather. I'll half ass be for Floyd against Ortiz but that's because i (like every boxing fan) wants to see him in against Pacquiao.

Take that fight off the table? I hope Ortiz knocks him out.
