I agree with this completely. I actually had GGG winning 9-3, but some close rounds could have gone to Canelo. I still think GGG won the fight clearly, but I thought he was better than this and if he had been what I/some expected him to be he would have won more decisively.

I think 9-3 is pretty decisive. This is the same score many on here had. There can be an argument for giving canelo 4 rounds. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY NO ARGUMENT GIVING CANELO 5 ROUNDS OR MORE. NONE! ZILCH!

There is argument. You may not think so but there is argument. Rounds 2,3,10-12. That's five rounds right there.

I'll have to watch again when it is replayed. But I had it 9-3, as mentioned, but definitely thought there was at least a couple rounds that could go the other way, or at least that I could see someone justifying as an Alvarez round. I really do think GGG won the fight decisively. But I was disappointed in his performance, as Musze said - I think if he was as elite as he was billed he would have left no doubt in those closer rounds, or just beat him up more. Cut the ring off more, been a more effective aggressor.

Watching this match I didn't think Alvarez was doing anything great (albeit I wasn't in the ring with him) and thought he was there to be had.

I half agree. I expected Golovkin to stop him around 9, but even if Canelo went the distance, I thought Golovkin would put much more hurt on him than he did.

But do bear in mind Alvarez was being very negative most of the time, and is a very sharp counterpuncher with respectable power, so someone like that is not that easy to put hurt on.

I do agree Golovkin could and should have done more, to really put a stamp on the fight, but I did think it was a decisive win - I had it 9-3 like you. If you're fighting an elite fighter, who is dangerous and being quite negative, perhaps it's unrealistic to expect more than beating someone 9-3. That is winning 3 times as many rounds as your opponent, most fights between top fighters are closer than that.

I agree it wasn't great. It was pretty good but not great. I thought it was competitive and fought at a high level, but that hardly qualifies as "great".

I can't believe even Mexican broadcasts had Golovkin winning, and Sly is still trying to argue that a draw is "fair" :D

Even fighters and trainers that picked Canelo have GGG winning.

Well...I scored it a draw at the time...therefore obviously I think a draw is fair.

Yeah even "pretty good" seems generous to me in all honesty. To me a fight that's good and competitive and fought at a high level would be any of the 4 Pacquiao - Marquez fights. They weren't exactly barn burners, but they were very interesting elite level fights, and very competitive.

And the reason I don't even consider this one "good" is because of Canelo. Honestly for the main stretch of the fight, he basically fought to survive. Just try and go the distance and hope the paid judges give him the inevitable gift.

Sure, but it's a bit weird though isn't it, I mean - even Mexicans think Golovkin won.

It seems like you were trying to give Alvarez every benefit of the doubt, to the extreme, to validate your confident Alvarez pick before the fight.

I think you are doing the opposite to justify you saying it'll be a mismatch (words to that effect).
I actually preferred Canelo's punches to GGG's in the fight. Canleo landed the better punches IMO. I wasn't trying to give him rounds.

OK sure, I suppose my point was even if you genuinely liked Canelo's work in this fight and genuinely believe he won the fight (or drew), you should still objectively acknowledge that a draw is not "fair" based on public opinion alone.

For example, I truly believe Golovkin won 9 rounds, but I'd also have to acknowledge 8-4 is a more fair score, as it's the more common score from fighters and press.

But no, honestly my score is nothing to do with justification. That's just how I scored the fight, I thought Canelo basically fought like a talented journeyman for the majority of the fight.

Even Kevin Kelley had the same score as me, and as far as I'm aware he's not a huge GGG groupie ;)

Clear GGG round, and Lampley ends the round as badly as Canelo did by saying "pretty close round".

If it hasn't happened already I'm waiting for criticism of Byrd's scorecard being labelled misogyny.

Retarded like everything else you say ... it's a good thing I know nothing about bad horror movies from the 60s or comic books because you're probably wrong about that shit too

Yeah I guess you're right. Plenty of action, Pacquiao getting knocked down, then tattooing Marquez and basically beating him up, then getting brutally KO'd. Very good fight.

If that guy lands significantly more punches than the other guy, I don't think it matters how many punches he missed.
