It'll never happen but the best thing this guy could do is fight 12 times in the next year on undercard fights against any old opponents they can find. A bum of the month tour. Relax into things, sharpen the saw and so on

It's a shame wilder didn't start boxing ten years earlier, he's got all the tools.

I didn't realise he was fucking 6'7. I assumed he was about 6'4 or so. Actually made Liakhovich look on the small side.

I thought he started in his mid teens? And he's hardly a master boxer. The guy lost 14 of 34 completed rounds to Barker, Murray and Macklin despite his afffleticism and power. Alvarez would take his lunch money!

I am not sure if that is still true. These big heavyweights are never going to be "master boxers" anyway, plus Wilder will probably beat several guys who box better than him. A guy with his reach will be very dangerous if his power is as good as it seems.

Though lets not forget that half a year ago many people (especially Brits) hailed David Price as a top-10 guy already. He had very similar early career, his power seemed as good and the level of opposition was the same (Harrison for both, Skelton was about the level of Liakovich). Then he met Tony the Tiger and was trashed. Wilder still has plenty to prove

If REED Isn't Mistaken, Martinez 1st Walked Into a Boxing Gym @ Around 17-18 (He was Into CYCLING Prior to Boxing) & Didn't have his 1st Pro Fight Until Early 20's...

He absolutely is... We are talking recognized champ, not some William Joppy/Keith Holmes alphabet shit

    I wouldn't rank him top 20 ever

That's a DIFFERENT Argument, Entirely...Who was LINEAL, Who Wasn't???...But Even Then, Martinez DECISIVELY Beat Pavlik, who KO'ed Jermain Taylor...

Are You Ranking Pavlik & Taylor Among the Least Impressive Middleweight Champions Ever, as Well???...Vito Antuofermo???...Alan Minter??....

    Fuck yeah!

Taylor was like Kermit Cintron with balls

I don't rate him or Pavlik as anything special... just two "top" guys in a terrible era

    Agree with everything here.

I still like Price and haven't written him off completely, but his future seems far less bright today than a year ago.

Well understand that when i use 'good' it has a peculiar technical meaning....it means 'somebody I'd actually wanna watch'. He'll win plenty fights due to size, power and affletix, fo sho. I just won't bother watching most of it.

A big athlete is Michael Grant. Wilder brings a lot more to the table skill-wise than Grant ever did.

That Being the Case, Martinez CLEARLY Beat Pavlik, who CLEARLY Beat Taylor...

So How is Martinez Among the LEAST Impressive if Pavlik & Taylor are Even LESS Impressive than Martinez Was???...& There's Still VERY Mediocre Champions like Antuofermo & Minter, that You Haven't Addressed...

For All the TALK of his Athletic Exploits, Michael Grant WASN'T Terribly Athletic as a FIGHTER, in REED's Opinion...PISS POOR Footwork, Balance, Coordination, etc...NOT the Least Bit FLUID, the Way an "Athletic" Fighter Typically Is...Plus he Never Seemed to LIKE Hurting his Opponents, Whereas Wilder DOES...

Deontay Wilder ISN'T the 2nd Coming of Cassius Clay, but he's MORE Athletic than Grant was, he's MEANER AND he Brings More to the Table, Skillfully...

Wilder Has Yet to FACE the Level of Guys Grant Did, but REED would Be SHOCKED if he Flamed Out as SUDDENLY & DRAMATICALLY as Grant Did...
