HBO overplayed their hand on this one and were forced to stick to the script. The reason they're not announcing was to reduce criticism over what was originally designed as back-to-back PPV weekends, with Calzaghe-Jones first slated for Sep 20. That's when HBO announced that the Joe-Jones fight was truly theirs, whereas they were merely distributing what was otherwise a Golden Boy PPV (not unlike their role in Diaz-Morales last summer).
So WHO's Televising this???:dunno:... It Interests REED, but it Better NOT B on PPV...Campbell-Guzman is the Same Night... REED:hammert:
::... it is PPV, just not a full-blown HBO PPV production. Also with the network "just" distributing it, there stands a good chance that it won't be replayed the following week on HBO. To my recollection, Diaz-Morales was never re-broadcast, at least not a week later.
Is it gonna be like that December 2003 card with Hopkins/Joppy, Spinks/Mayorga, Ruiz/Rahman, etc...?? They didn't have HBO commentators, but HBO was still advertising that fight leading up to it.
Wasn't that a Don King PPV? Maybe HBO was involved too. I remember when Don King was the promoter we would get his crappy PPV broadcast with Bob Sheridan in Canada... even if HBO PPV was doing the broadcast. I used to hate that. I remember watching Jones/Ruiz, Jones/Tarver II and a couple other big fights that way.
It was a Don King production, but I remember HBO advertising that card leading up to it, so they must've been involved too.
