20 years ago, the HBO team of Lampley/Merchant/Foreman destroyed Showtime... but mainly because Larry was awesome, and Showtime consisted of Albert/Czyz/Pacheco... aka the worst team ever assembled. But at this point, I'll take Renalo/Bernstein/Paulie over them anyday. Renalo is terrible, but I just cannot stomach these company shills anymore. Max has sold his soul. The FNF Max would probably be disgusted by the current incarnation of himself. Even Roy, who once upon a time didn't a give a fuck about the company agenda and told it like it is, even he's started to become a shill in recent years. And then that brings us to the most unbearable, most biased cheerleader in the game... I always always always felt that Barry Tompkins was the best HBO ever had. Lampley is a piece of shit and needs to go ASAP. I don't care if Tompkins is pushing 80, and Merchant is pushing 90... re-hire both of them!
Kellerman on the MiC after the fight immediately picked up and kept the narrative going. It was shameful. It was like something out of a propaganda news reel.
I couldn't believe it when Kellercunt said "Yeah Gennady is 7-3 ahead, but they may score it for Canelo". Um, if one guy has won over twice as many rounds, why the fuck would you suggest they may score it for the other guy? What fucking bizarre and very telling thing to say.
The GGG crybabies have another thread to shit their pampers in. Grow the fuck up already. And before any of the GGGayboys rush in with the "Muzse hates GGG nonsense", I picked GGG and thought he won and close fight.
It happens to be a fact that Home Boys Only massaged the narrative and continued to do so right throughout the post-fight interviews. Their business is to buy and sell fights, instead they are trying to tell us what we saw. That's unethical, at best.
Renelo is better than Lampley and by some distance now. The HBO crew spend the whole fight talking about everything but the fight going on in the ring. Max is good in the studio but sucks as an announcer and an interviewer. Lampley used to be great but now he is just a good set up guy before the fight. Renalo/Paulie and Al are a great team imo.
Max is absolutely horrible as an announcer and interviewer. The worst. Just an irritating, agenda driven cunt.
STFU old man, I'm far far from a Golovkin groupie. He isn't even a top 5 favorite of mine. But you gotta call a spade a spade.
Renalo is still too MMA-ish for my liking. Plus his corny pop culture analogies make me sick. BUT... at least Renalo is impartial. Lamprey has become a disgrace. He's just living off his 90s rep now.
You've started what...at least THREE threads about this within the last 24 hours? And that doesn't account for all the bitching and complaining in the thread about the fight itself. That's definitely groupie behavior, so spade it is for you.
I watched some fights from the 80s recently and Tompkins&Merchant was a fabulous duo back then. Extremely good. Lampley&Merchant was great too, even though hating Lampley is the new way to prove that you are an expert
Lampley was good but too blatantly biased and fanatical whenever Oscar would fight. George Foreman was right there with him.
Turning down the volume also means you lose the sound of the crowd, the punches, the fighters ... takes away the atmosphere... that's no fun
My thoughts exactly. I've never understood when people say turn the sound off etc, totally kills the atmosphere, and just seems weird and depressing It's way way more fun watching with the sound of the crowd and the sound of the punches and even commentary. I'm strong minded enough to not be influenced by idiots like Kellercunt, and trust most of you are too.
Exactly I like hearing the sound of the fight and can successfully shake my head in disgust at Lampley's pathetic cheerleading... I've been doing it for decades
When I'd watch regular HBO broadcasts I'd turn to HBO Latino rather than listen to the HBO crew. I rarely take issue with Roy...Max is semi annoying, Merchant toward the end was unbearable and Lampley is consistently unreasonable. Here's one from the best of the worst of Jim Lampley archives...
HBO definitely had their pro-Canelo agenda a couple nights ago, one of their really bad nights along with others like Chavez-Taylor 1. It would take me a lot to turn down the sound because I want to hear all the sounds. This isn't quite the same without the sound:
Oscar and G also showing their influence with The Ring magazine, since they own it. Canelo-GGG: When an entertaining draw is the best possible outcome - The Ring Canelo Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin slug it out in draw that meets expectations - The Ring
Sometimes announcers can add something, and be funny/entertaining - like Merchant/Foreman/Lampley. But sometimes they serve no purpose but to annoy me, like on Saturday, where all of them were awful. So in this digital age, you should absolutely be able to choose to keep the sound and mute the commentary if you want.
No way will hbo forfeit their ability to frame and manipulate the perception of events by allowing selective audio.
They had that for Pryor-Arguello 2, or at least the version I saw of it. It was interesting to see, such a different experience of what I am used to watching.
