Didn't i say the exact same thing or are you quoting me because you agree? :dunno:

@ hut hut - we are really talking too many different things now - from BJJ being unmanly we are now at what we prefer for a bodyguard's abilities in a night club to fight off the average street thug.

I know TKO brought it up to defend BJJ but it really hasn't to do anything with the initial topic.

I read this kind of trash around 2000 or so. That it exists here, today, on Fightbeat? Well, that doesn't suprise me either.

All these styles were first and foremost developed as methods of self defense, Tam. And some of us live places where their efficacy in that department is a very relevant concern.

Exactly, a lot of people fail to understand this.

I've seen a lot of street fights, and most of them are just scrappy punch ups between untrained thugs or tough guys. Sometimes they DO hit the ground, and if that happens, not a lot happens

They either stand again or engage in some rudimentary ground and pound.

What a lot of people also fail to understand is, that skilled boxing is totally ineffective in a street fight because the average thug doesn't use it that often... :notallthere:

By the way Bama, in case you were wondering, I forgive you for practicing BJJ, and I am sure you're far more entertaining to watch than Letters.

Royness, would you honestly try to pull guard in a street fight and try to bend your attackers toes?

Royness, I bet you've never been in a real street fight. Pulling guard on the streets would get you killed.

I actually hate that part of BJJ because the guard was never meant to be an offensive position, but a lot of BJJ wannabees watched way too many Royce Gracie highlights, and they end up getting a brick to the head in the streets.

I understand what you're saying. BJJ is pretty boring to watch especially if one of the guys is just waiting for an opportunity to bend someone's toes back. I've been to enough tournaments on the West Coast to know it's not fun to watch unless it's two active practioners going for submissions.

I hate faggoty stallers. Royness seems to me like he might be a staller who ends all his matches by points win or loss.

That's true - i avoid it at all costs, although that's not very tough for me since nobody seems to want a piece of me the last couple of years. :kidcool:

that being said i didn't mention i wanna pull guard or anything you lil street fight know it all. ;)

If you doubt my claims, you're welcome to roll with me at Gracie Barra America to prove I'm a liar.

and do you know asian mike?

im sure if you are anything other than a beginner i can find out if you are bullshitting or not.

what makes anyone think that someone who will give no true info about themselves, will show up at a big academy like GBA to roll with someone?

Look, I'm not trying to "challenge your manhood" or anything, but I've found the best way to find out if anyone is BS'ing about their ability is to actually roll against them. You could tap me, or I could tap you, doesn't matter to me. I know my grappling abilities, and I've rolled with some pretty good people and have been able to submit them, or give them a pretty good session. I've grappled with a guy who placed in NAGA, and a Judo Silver Medalist in the Olympics, these guys were highly skilled, and I "kept up" with them. I'd say that's a good testament to my abilities.

I'm not going to lie and say I'd whup ass at the Mundials or anything, but I know I'm competent.

Truth be told, I actually haven't put on a gi in about 5 months because I've been concentrating on other things in life, but I'm pretty sure it would all come back really quickly once I hit the mat.

Royness, why do Germans wear lederhosen? Don't you think that's a bit faggy?

it's a bavarian thing - traditional clothing down there but not in the other parts of Germany. I only wore them once since my grandfather had a pair but it was a funny event and other than that people don't dress like this in my area...

As for the faggy part i think you would not be one bit more faggy if you had one of those... ;)

i mostly rolled no-gi but have a blue belt.

if you are being truthful about your experience you would certainly have a huge edge with the gi. and ive been out over 14 months because of a shoulder injury just started back again but you are definitely right.

if i ever go up to visit my brother or Free Ike the great maybe Ill stop by and we can roll if you actually want to.

or just do whatever i dont care

Yeah, actually I wouldn't mind hanging out with you guys. Free Ike is an intelligent guy who has many redeeming qualities. I think the same of Jaws and MWS.
