Today, David Haye announced plans for his assault on the heavyweight division. I would imagine that most fight fans, myself included, are excited by this news and cannot wait to see how he fares with the big men of boxing. A four fight deal involving Setanta and the O2 Arena...further indication that the heavyweight division isn't centered in the U.S. anymore. Warren's supposedly been talking with Arum about feature him in some fights in the States on Top Rank cards.
he better hope that amir kahn is the real deal. or maybe he can milk a few title defenses w/ alex arthur in scotland.
Maccarinelli will also have another minor CW title in no time...plus there are some decent british boxers heading to the olympics and it will be natural for a few to turn to the biggest UK promoter whn they turn pro...the hype train needs to slow down a bit, what if Haye gets KTFO in one or two if his initial fights at HW?
I wouldn't be surprised if Khan and his handlers decide this promoting gig is not so difficult and enter a collaborative gig with golden boy in the US
Not sure why Khan would want to be promoted by G, especially in the States. G haven't proven themselves to be very good match-makers, in the fans interest or their fighters (primarily younger ones), IMO. Plus, G hasn't proven they can actually promote. They've basically just been "promoting" established stars.
They have priority access to TV dates, i would anticipate something similar to what Hatton is doing. Khan is swiftly becoming an established name in the UK, he's far ahead of being just a prospect with respect to media profile. If he's smart he will stay under warren's protection until he is more seasoned but I get the impression his handlers believe he can be moved more quickly onto greater things.
Not to put words in salaco's mouth, but what I got out of it was that Khan would basically set up a shell company, and allow Golden HBOy to do the promotional legwork. Khan's the type that'll generate TV dates whenever the hell he wants, usually the prime candidate for HBO to help fund a promotional company that doesn't actually promote (or even boast any other clients)
They have access with HBO, which may actually become a tangible deal according to Steve Kim, as Gary Shaw does with Showtime. But what I'm trying to understand is, are you saying collaborating with G when he fights in the states, or collaborating with G and primarily fighting in the states, except when there are G cards in the UK? I can understand the first scenario, but not the second...at this point.
