An intresting match-up. Dempsey was known as a giant killer. His head movement combined with his ability to throw short hooks quickly and with deadly power proved impossible to handle for the big guys. Jess Willard was about Lewis' size and he got hospitalized even though he was known for his good chin. Meanwhile, Lewis had trouble with Ray Mercer who was practically the same size as Dempsey and practically fought at the same era as Dempsey but who wasn't as fast and didn't hit that hard. While I do think that Lewis' edge in reach and weight might be some kind of factors in this fight they would be secondary. I think Dempsey could come out smoking and take Lewis out in the first three rounds, unless of course he got careless as he did against Firpo and would be knocked out himself, Lewis was a banger too. If it would go to the later rounds, I think Dempsey's early lead might help him to eek out the decision although it could also be that Lewis would catch up and win enough rounds with his jab. If it ended somewhere in the middle rounds, I think it would be anybody's fight. I don't see a late knockout as very likely, but if it happened, anyone could score it, both carried their power well in the late rounds, but neither man was cut easily. Peace.
I think the mere thought of having to defend his title against a black man would fuck with Dempsey's psyche. He either vacates the title and retires or goes inactive for three years, or pulls a Bruce Seldon and faints at the first punch, or the closest resemblance to one. Lewis KO1
