duddy vs. taylor is a better fight. it's a perfect (and most lucrative) tune-up for jermain and it would definitely pack the garden. that and duddy stands a much better chance at landing a lucky punch or showing a valiant effort in losing vs. taylor than against pavlik. pavlik would probably ruin his career.
Duddy just isn't good enough to compete on close terms with the better fighters @ 154 or 160. That said, neither was Gatti and he made a squillion. Duddy is a star in waiting and a fight on HBO, with someone like a Jose Luis Zertuche would do him wonders Pavlik? Taylor? Abraham? Death.
I have a world of respect for Don Turner as a trainer and a cornerman....but he's not working with an potentially great fighter in Duddy. I think John is more mule than thouroughbread .

How do you know whether it is a career-high payday? Irish boxing fans are crazy. 10000 people showed up to watch Bernard Dunne, who hasn´t exactly the most fan-friendly style in the world. At least not until he voluntarily KO´d himself against Kiko Martinez. That was the most weird attempt at defense I have ever seen from a professional fighter. Duddy is just scratching that potential, he doesn´t need Pavlik right now, and he´s not ready anyway. Gonzalez Alcoba is a decent choice. Sturm made him acceptable as an "opponent" by choosing him for a world title bout, he´s very slow, very open and can´t punch, but he has some technical skill in the way that he knows how to place his shots and in combinations. He´s a poor man´s Baldomir. Could make for an exciting fight with Duddy.

..but he´ll still be there in a few years. Duddy has enough of a fanbase in Ireland or the East Coast, that he can develop himself and make a lot of money. I doubt he´ll ever be ready for a world class fighter, but at least give yourself a chance.
