Arce body shot halts Rojas; Sosa retains title via TKO! By Victor Perea, Chris Bronte and Albert Howell at ringside It was the hottest ticket in town as every seat was sold for Top Rank's rare Sunday night "Viva Mexico" card inside the jam-packed "Joint" at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. 1,274 saw the successful return of Jorge Arce (47-4-1, 36 KOs), who moved up to the bantamweight division to claim the WBC Latino belt in a come from behind TKO of Tomas Rojas (24-9, 16 KOs). Rojas showed fast hands and delivered good combinations in winning every round on two of the three official cards (50-45, 50-45, 48-47) for the five completed rounds. However in the sixth round Arce connected with a left hook to the body that put Rojas on the deck. Rojas barely beat the count and referee Joe Cortez quickly stepped in to end it during Arce's follow-up attack. Time was 1:00. <HR width="50%"> WBC mini-flyweight champion Edgar Sosa (29-5, 15 KOs) scored a ninth round TKO over Lorenzo Trejo (27-16, 15 KOs) to retain his title for the second time. Sosa took over the bout in round six and got the stoppage in the ninth when referee Tony Weeks stepped in to stop the punishment. Time was 2:02. http://www.fightnews.com/ It's funny before the fight Arce said in an interview that during the Mijares fight his corner wanted to stop the fight a different times. But ARce said he didn't let them because he wanted to punish himself for all the shit talking he did before the fight. He said he needed to humble himself. It might be bullshit but it's somewhat refreshing. I will never hear Toney or Zab say that even if their getting killed in the ring.:: The fight tonight was at 118, I wonder if he will stay there or if he will go back to 115.:dunno:
It was on one of the Spanish cable channels BitchAss Jake Azteca or something. I stumbled upon it last night. At first I thought it was a replay until they announced Paez Jr. with one loss.
ah, Azteca is yet another channel not available down here. :flip: , DirecTV (or at least its Nashville affiliate)
i know, but it's nice to have access to the channels that fuck around and show a fight every so often. They've had a couple of Joan Guzman's fights in the past. In fact, I don't think I ever heard of them until his fight w/ Beltran a couple of years ago. anyway, agREED on Arce (as far as what you, Muzse and El Terribleeee said). Rumors keep surfacing about his fighting Martin Castillo, but I think he should stay away from that fight, as well as any other that involves an opponent with solid boxing skills. Top Rank needs to go back to creative matchmaking to keep his career relevant. They should swallow their pride and pursue a fight w/ Darchinyan next year, even financing a Vic tune-up beforehand.
yea, the guy he fought was significantly bigger than him. i thought 115 was too big, but his fat ass can't keep his weight down.
i don't think so, but it's not unlike a promoter to drop a fighter after a loss (esp. if he lost to another fighter already signed by said promoter)
