Yeah it was way more impressive the way he took an extra round to stop the guy... Incredible stuff. no one predicted it? What does that have to do with anything? Nobody thought Hasim Rahman would KO Lennox ... Therefore who's to say Cliff Etienne couldn't do it?! Anything is possible in this boxing business... I'm just gonna say he could've if for no other reason than to detract from Rahman
brook who? he squeaked out some holding victory and now he's someone, lets not be quick to call him slick, he was at times but alot of holding.
Jesus H. fucking Christ!!! Yall are acting like I said Brook was Jose Napoles! He's not very good, I just said he's better than Broner. And he is. Broner is crap. Porter would have beaten Broner all over the ring. Brook is more powerful than Broner, and technically more skilled. And Maidana beating Brook, or Thurman is FAR from a sure thing. Could he beat either one? Yes. Would he? Up for debate. Garcia hasn't changed Maidana into a new man. He's still hittable, and his chin still isn't great. Brook and Thurman aren't being overrated here, because nobody is calling them great. Maidana is the main one being overrated in this thread.
The fans win this one. But really, that'd be an excellent matchup. I won't pretend that Garcia doesn't have the pop to put Thurman on his ass. But Thurman has the power to hurt Garcia too if he catches him right. If they fought RIGHT NOW, given what each has accomplished so far, Garcia would likely go in as the favorite. I think both Garcia and Thurman would beat Brook though.
Brook probably ain't even as good as Nino Larocca. All I said is that he's better than Broner, and he would have a good shot at beating Maidana. Maidana, Porter, Thurman, Brook, we all know damn well these guys would be non-factors in the Leonard, Duran, Benitez, Hearns, Palomino, Cuevas era. Leonard would give Brook the Andy Price treatment.
Floyd struggling with Maidana had more to do with Floyd than Maidana. It's people pretending that Floyd at 37 years old can't slow down overnight. Maidana made it a rough fight, and Floyd in his old age is troubled by a rough fight. 7 years ago we saw Hatton try to force Floyd into a rough fight, and get lit up. That's because Floyd was much quicker on the trigger, could maintain a higher pace back then than now.
Maidana is bigger than Hatton. Hits much harder. Every time PBF faces a good fighter, like Cotto, ODH and now Madaina, people go on about PBF'S age.
I'd guess Hatton is bigger than Maidana. He had to be cutting more weight. I don't remember people talking about PBF's age for Cotto or DLH, either.
Floyd was still young, and very much in his prime when he fought Oscar. Cotto fight was over 2 years ago. Floyd was still quicker and sharper in that fight than he was against Maidana. People pretend like Floyd has gotten better with age, but I never really bought that. I think he really PEAKED when he was 27-30. It just so happened, his prime lasted awhile.
Floyd was peaking his entire career pretty much though. His strength increased with age, but that was about it.. the decline is easy to see, he's a visibly slower fighter.
I think it's bullshit to put Mayweather/Maidana down to Floyd's age He hadn't faced anyone with a style remotely similar in a decade or more... he didn't look older or slower or diminished in any way
I think he's looked slower for the past 2 or 3 years. Obviously not every fighter can exploit that and a lot of the roughness of the fight had to do with what Maidana did, but Floyd's age (imo) did too.
Of course not. Everything is stacked against this guy. He's small at 147. His opponents are constantly trying to cheat. Trying to use mx gloves. And he's damn near geriatric at this points. It's like Ketchel vs. Johnson when he fights. And the refs are always not letting him use his fore arm.
