Gotta be top 10 most underrated/underappreciated actor of all time.

Bacon almost NEVER turns in a bad performance, and he has a number of superb performances that he doesn't get enough credit for.

Kevin Bacon was in "Criminal Law" with Gary Oldman, who was in "Murder In The First" with Kevin Bacon.

Bacon should have at least been Oscar NOMINATED for Murder in the First.

One of the most underrated performances I can think of.

He killed Fassbender's mother in X-Men First Class.

    Could that be the reason?

Iconic in 'Footloose', magnificent in 'Murder in the First', heck I even was impressed by his performance of a Charles Bronson-like father seeking revenge in the low budget "Death Sentence" (directed by James Wan) and he was totally creepy and mysterious as 'The Woodsman".

To add to the list... he was also excellent in Mystic River, and played a great villain in Sleepers.

Stir of Echoes was a very underrated thriller. Not your typical corny ghost movie.

    No, you're not.

Hollow Man is a good movie. And that's my point, with a lesser actor Hollow Man would have been shit.

Ah.....now I remember why I don't like him...it was because of Hollow man. His character was such a CUNT that I began to hate the actor.

I'm not denying that...just saying that it caused me to despise him. Kinda like how I feel about Sean Penn since Mystic River

Sean Penn wasn't a "bad guy" in Mystic River. He was a hardened criminal, but not evil.

He was an ex-thug who was devastated after the murder of his daughter, and ended up mistakenenly killing the man (Tim Robbins) whom he was convinced killed his daughter. Admittedly, the circumstances seemed to suggest that Robbins did it... I mean, Robbins' wife is one who snitched on him and TOLD Penn that he committed the murder.

That paragraph is a spoiler for anyone who's never seen Mystic River, but I assume most people have.

If you wanna find a movie to dislike Sean Penn in, then it's Carlito's Way - where he plays a slimey, back stabbing, ruthless character.

.........or go all the way back to "Casualties Of War". His Sgt. Meserve made Tom Berenger's Sgt. Barnes seem like a tame little kitty cat in comparison.

REED Finds the REAL LIFE Sean Penn CONSIDERABLY More Unlikable than ANY of his On-Screen Characters have Been...

Amazing the Dude who Played Spicoli in "Fast Times @ Ridgemont High" Could Be Such a HUMORLESS, Perpetually MISERABLE Motherfucker in Real Life...

Bacon's character in 'Hollow man' was more a throwback to the original 'The Invisible Man' played by Claude Rains where the scientist slowly becomes a psychopath as a result of the experiment. Is more tragic than villainous IMO.

I didn't really find Hollow Man to be tragic, because Bacon's "good guy" characater never existed. Even in the beginning, pre-experiment, he came across as a cocky, ambitious asshole. Becoming invisible simply turned him a psychopathic, arrogant asshole.

When I think of "more tragic than villanious" I think of Jeff Goldblum in The Fly. Goldblum's character pre-experiment reasonates with the audience (I mean, it's Jeff Goldblum, one of the most likable actors ever). So as the fly begins to alter his looks and his behavior, and he becomes a ruthless monster, you really get a tragic feeling.

The final scene, where he motions for Geena Davis to kill him, is pretty sad.

But that difference is why Hollow Man is simply a good movie, and The Fly is a classic.

The original version of 'The Fly" was more tragic. The Jeff Goldblum remake was 'too Cronenberg' for my taste.
