Carl Williams and Trevor Berbick can challenge Holmes' victory but Wald isn't on their level nor anywhere close
Holmes would be "up" for Wald, just as he was "up" for Cooney. I see no way Wald wins. Holmes had a better jab, so right away Wald's best weapon is nullified. Holmes was tougher, Holmes was smarter, Holmes had MUCH better stamina, and although he wasn't a big puncher, he hit hard and sharp enough to eventually stop Wald. For once in your life, stop defending Wald against better fighters. He does not beat a prime Larry Holmes.
I think Holmes was older against Williams. Berbick fought a prime Holmes...so that point stands. Wlad, if he fights at his best is capable of hurting Holmes at the very least. No doubt about it. His height and size (and power) would give Holmes fits. However Holmes had such a good chin and even better recuperation powers that I have to believe that he'd keep coming back and eventually that'll take it's toll on Wlad who cannot match him for stamina or overall toughness. As such I see Larry winning by late stoppage in a fight that either Wlad is winning or it's pretty even. It's definitely not the blowout that X is suggesting, that's ridiculous, but you still have to make Holmes the clear favourite.
When did I use the word blow out? I said Wald would get "fucked up" (meaning busted up) and stopped. I stand by both those statements. Holmes would methodically take him apart and eventually stop him.
Agreed. While Wlad would no doubt give some trouble to Holmes, I dont think that someone who is so fragile mentally could deal with a guy like holmes, who just wouldn't stop trying. Also, I think Holmes jab would really troule Wlad
Wald is pretty underrated round these parts but Holmes beats him handily IMO. Holmes was just better I think in my mind. MTF
I could see Holmes getting dropped or hurt by Wlad's straight right, before rallying to stop Wlad in the mid to late rounds.
