I have to give it to MJ even though Prince is lightyears ahead as a musician. I think the older me is a bigger Prince fan, by some distance, but Jackson's back catalogue blows the vast majority of artists out of the water, just so many instantly recognisable hits.

    MJ.

Prince has some quality hits, but MJ has more.

Prince didn't have many good songs, and his lyrics were cringeworthy
also his falsetto on some songs is comical

I'm not a big fan of either but he's just a more interesting artist and a fine musician

Musician can also entail writing/arranging/producing music....not necessarily being proficient on an instrument.

In that aspect, I'd argue Jackson takes it...

Considering the musicians I hate (shredders, progs), that's a hilariously off base remark

Tough one. Both incredible talents...and incredible performers.

Jackson must be given the nod though. The guy was a megastar.

I prefer MJ’s music, and he was a better overall entertainer. Prince was overall more talented as a musician.

    THIS

Jackson is head and shoulders above Prince as an entertainer, singer, career, live performances, etc. Sure, Prince could write songs and write and perform his own music, but even his best song/performance is no match for prime MJ.

For those of you who only know the Prince songs that play on the radio and haven’t actually digested some of his lesser known albums please don’t make dumb comments about stuff you’re not even half knowledgeable about.

I'd say 99% of the posters on here saying such stuff probably know of Purple Rain and The Best Of Prince.

    What's 'prime MJ' then, panchyprsss?
    What's his best era/albums/songs/tour?

(I already know the answer - just want to see if you do)

MJ for me but it's really close. I've definitely been an MJ fan longer but Prince's music appeals more to me now I'm older. Yeah the classics like Purple Rain etc but it's the lesser known stuff now for me.

Prince is real hit and miss. There's some true shit he's recorded but also utter brilliance. MJ was more consistent in my opinion.

Exactly and my point is he has been continually dropping albums the past several years. Most of those albums didn’t have a single that went to the radio, although IMO their was at least a couple songs on each album that could have.

Actually that excludes that last album that was released after his death. I didn’t like a single song on that last album of his.
Okay I’ll do it in a day or two.
